There is nothing unhygienic about TP ot TP tubes.

A TP roll that has been sitting right next to your toilet, being handled by people who are in the process of using the toilet, can definitely become unhygienic.

This would not cross most people’s minds. Honestly, I also have health anxiety, and I never would have thought of this as an issue. The toilet paper roll is protected by toilet paper up until the end. It’s fine to use. If you’re very concerned, then pull it when there’s a little paper left so nothing actually touches the roll.

But the cardboard tube is covered by toilet paper up until you remove that last square of tp. The cardboard barely gets touched.

If it makes you feel better, OP, you can ask your family to save rolls once they’re down to just a few sheets of tp, and then set them aside for crafts. Then you can remove those last few sheets yourself and then wash your hands.

If it was a problem wouldn’t she have had a random sickness or stomach bug since making these crafts? I wouldn’t worry about this one.

Whoaaa I also get really anxious about health related stuff and I would NEVER have thought to worry about this. Dang OP you are making me feel like all my efforts in therapy have been working. Best of luck.

Same.

I’ve had this concern, too, OP, but I let DC use them for crafts anyway. Although I do usually pull the rolls while there’s still a little bit of TP on them still.

Raised three kids and this never occurred to me. Germs are everywhere OP.

+1.
I don’t think you are crazy or anything, but this isn’t a typical concern for someone without health anxiety.

Fair question for op: do you have anxiety ?

Np. The inside of the tube and the ring on the side are not fully covered by paper. They are partially exposed to aerosolized poop particles after flushing. Your method reduces the hygiene problem dramatically, but not completely.

Unless you can guarantee that all members of your house and all guests are closing the toilet lid when flushing, that toilet paper roll is still a little dirty.

That said... almost no one worries about this. The tp roll being a little dirty isn't that big of a deal. Lots of things that kids play with are a little dirty.

It’s impossible?

But that kind of describes the entire bathroom. Even the ones which have separate toilets behind a closed door, those doors are mostly open as someone hits flush and leaves. You have constant low-level exposure to the poop germs of everyone in your household, and this basically doesn't cause issues.

Best to find something else to worry about.

When you flush with a closed lid the aerosolized feces and stuff get in the inside of the lid. What if someone sitting on the toilet sits back and touches the lid then it's on their clothing and then on whatever seatbacks they use wearing that.

Think on that. Wear special hazmat gowns to toilet?
What about toilet flush handle, light switch, doorknobs?
