And that is a pain point too- some IB schools have AP options and others don’t. Get rid of IB. No one is taking it how it was intended. |
If IB was so good, all other top FCPS schools would be clamoring for it to replace AP-they aren’t! |
FCPS IB participation rates include standard level which for English classes for example could be compared to Honors. IB SL gets a 1 gpa boost while Honors gets .5. VDOE publishes the relevant IB statistics at https://www.doe.virginia.gov/data-policy-funding/data-reports/program-participation-data/advanced-programs IB seniors are diploma candidates. Data has been updated for 2023-24. There is no 2024-25. |
I’m pretty sure those are IB diploma numbers. |
The VDOE sites includes AP and IB participation (percentages of all students taking at least 1 AP or IB course) for 2024-25 and also seniors at the IB schools at 2023-24 awarded IB diplomas. 2023-24 IB Diplomas (percentage of graduating seniors): Robinson 109 (17.5%) Marshall 68 (13.3%) Annandale 54 (10.0%) South Lakes 50 (7.9%) Edison 45 (9.1%) Justice 30 (5.8%) Mount Vernon 14 (2.8%) Lewis 10 (2.6%) |
Entire IB program for only 100 to get the diploma is strong support that program doesn’t work and should be pulled-let alone when only 10 kids! If consider weapons-check performative arts, IB is the weapons check of programs. It’s for show to say it’s there only. |
What are you babbling about? |
|
DP. When 82-97% of the kids at IB schools are not getting IB diplomas, it’s past time to admit its implementation in FCPS has been a failure.
It’s small wonder most families will object if redistricted into IB high schools. |
I'm honestly confused here. Why is the number for TJ so low? Shouldn't all students at TJ be taking at least one AP class? Aren't they the best of the best? How can their number be so close to the other high performers, who also contain students who just happen to live within their borders? |
This percentage is based on all students at the school last year. If you look at just juniors and seniors the percentage at TJ is much higher. |
Right. Don't most high achieving freshmen take AP human geology? Don't most high achieving sophomores take AP World? I would expect the numbers at TJ to be way higher than, say Oakton. |
I think you mean AP Human Geography. I don't know if most high-achieving freshmen take one of the limited number of AP courses available to freshmen at most schools (e.g., AP Human Geography, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Pre-Calculus) simply because they are AP courses. I do think most high-achieving sophomores take AP World History. In any event, the percentages listed earlier were taken directly from the VDOE web site. FCPS separately reports AP participation for juniors and seniors at the 17 AP high schools. The latest data posted is from 2022-23. If you crunch those numbers, here's the higher numbers you get: TJ 100% Langley 79.2% McLean 77.2% Oakton 75.0% Madison 74.7% Woodson 68.3% Lake Braddock 63.4% Fairfax 59.4% Chantilly 58.9% West Springfield 57.6% South County 57.3% Centreville 56.8% Hayfield 55.8% Westfield 48.5% West Potomac 43.6% Falls Church 43.3% Herndon 36.7% |
Students at TJ don’t take a social studies class in 9th grade. The only students at TJ that take AP classes are the students in AP Precalculus/ AP calculus or AP CS A - data structures. 100% of TJ graduates take AP classes. |
