I think devastated is quite strong. Yes, some government employees and contractors have lost their jobs. But this is a risk non government employees face all the time. Why should government employees be different? Houses keep selling in my Fairfax neighborhood. Usually fairly quickly and at good prices. I have not seen reports of widespread issues in Fairfax.

I just don’t trust anonymous forums these days. Connelly was a very popular representative in a blue district. I don’t see it turning Republican in a special election. There was good participation in the primary, even if the safe vs the best candidate won. I don’t see voters in NOVA sitting it out. To me it is like choosing between Stalin and Hitler when it comes to Democrats and Republicans. Honestly. What I hear tou telling me is to vote for Stalin because he is better than Hitler. FWIW I have non-Newish family members who were put in a concentration camp and others taken in the night by Stalin and never seen again.
