| I already know my rising 6th grader wants to change the elective he chose in the spring of 5th grade. Is there a drop/add period at the beginning of the school year? Or do we wait until the schedule is posted and reach out to the counselor? TIA |
If there’s room, some schools allow changes that are by choice rather than to correct an error. Others will not change the schedule due to the student’s regrets. Which school? Someone here might know their policy. |
Thanks for this. In my case, I click on 'electives' and it shows the full 2025-26 schedule (courses only; no teachers/periods). So it seems like for us, the classes are there but not linked to departments/requirements yet. Very helpful as it shows that our requested change is in place. Thank you! |
I'd reach out to the counselor ASAP. They tend to make these changes if there's space available. So the earlier you ask, the more likely there's still a spot available in the other class. Also, I'm guessing they become more reluctant to move other kids' schedules around to accommodate yours if the other kid has seen the schedule (they may complain). |
They may be listed under Electives, especially if the graduation requirement has already been met. |
There's a lot of people in this area who think the rules are for thee and not for me. You can certainly ask but don't always assume you're going to get the response you want |
| Still no schedule for us. Two days before school starts (HS)…. |
What HS? |
| Also no schedule yet for Walter Johnson. It popped up a few days ago briefly but it was wrong and I haven’t been able to see it yet. Are high school schedules not up? |
Our HS schedule has been up since the 20th (Einstein). |
| WJ will be up on Tuesday 8/26 for grades 10-12, which seems late. They must be making changes until the last minute? |
So much for reducing student anxiety, WJ! |
And the schedules are finally up for WJ - woot! |
Though you have to look in grade book to see the schedule with teachers and classrooms. |
That's shamefully late WJ. My kid's MS schedule has been up since 8/20, and it's far more important for a HS kid to have their schedule right. |
