Supplemental review only covers 2 schools and will have to pay extra to have additional schools reviewed. Yes, I will admit that they are basically re-writing everything.

lol Are you sure that's a good idea?

Why not?

What is that teaching your DC about his abilities? Do you plan to hire someone to "edit" future writing assignments for him, in college and work? Why not just explicitly tell him that you don't think he's good enough?

Get a grip.

Careful, your values are showing.

Sounds like exactly what OP wants. Very kindergarten playground of you to basically say “neener neener, I have and I’m not telling.”

What do you expect from someone who admits to hiring someone to complete their child's applications?

If your kid can’t handle this, they’re not smart enough for whatever schools you’re trying to get them into.

This is so unhelpful. That's like saying, "My kid got 4 B's and got into his first choice."

- first choice was what?
- what were other stats?
- what was his profile like compared to others in the same school (rigor, testing, grades)?
- what were ECs?
- was kid hooked?

Telling us kid got into top choice could mean he was unhooked, UMC, and got into a school with a 89% acceptance rate or a 3% acceptance rate.

NP: It is kind of a silly post. I'm the one who said towards the beginning, it is highly unlikely a parent of a kid going into his/her senior year is going to share this information. It is much more likely that someone posing as a parent - but is really the essay editor or related to or is friendly with the essay editor - will self-recommend OR someone who isn't a current parent of a rising senior.

No way I would share ours this year. Zero chance.

Agreed, this is sick.

Why not share? I’ve searched here and gathered 10 or so names.
Also found some through other sources.

None approach the $5500 fee though.
One of them is about 2-3k which I might use.

Chiming in again to suggest NOT hiring someone who will edit it directly. The essay coach my kid is working with did that, and it didn't help. It wasn't his voice. It was hers, and not even words a high school kid would use.

We had him change it back to his own voice, and it's much stronger now, in our opinion. My husband and I are both in fields where we write and edit a lot, so we feel pretty confident in this.

When I edit my kids' work, I will give comments and then let them rewrite in their own words. The only time I made direct edits are for things like grammar, sentence structure, etc.

The last time I shared the name of a good tutor, my own kid couldn't get sessions scheduled b/c the tutor became so popular. I'm guessing if I shared our current essay reviewer, not only would the same thing happen, but the prices would go through the roof. Then add on to that that the people looking for recs are largely the 2026 graduating HS class, so those kids could be my kid's competition in some way. So, no.

And then people have the audacity to complain that UMC students are hurt by a system that doesn't prioritize "merit."

Exactly.

Ask around in your circle.
You’d be surprised. Lots of people have “essay people”.

And ask to read some of their previous work. It should not sound overly “thesaurus-y”. Good essay editors do not use overly complicated language for a kid that does not normally use that style of language when speaking. A good personal essay sounds like a thought-provoking or deep conversation with your kid.

Going rate is $1250-1500 for a long essay. $750-1000 for each set of supplements.

^^ i’d be furious if an essay editor shared my kid’s essays with a prospective new family.
