Doesn't mean any of this was necessary. It's all for the press releases and headlines.

It's almost as if.... a former reality start is our president?

None of the deals are good….none of the deals will lead to more jobs and in fact manufacturing jobs have already declined.

Looks like the appeals court will strike down the tariffs and let’s hope the Supreme Court does the same.

Worst economic policy in nearly 100 years.

This. It's all a tax on Americans. They are bragging about how much they have made as a tax on Americans.

Here's the whole story if you want to get educated, OP and anyone else:

We're all strapped in the back seat of a car being driven by an insane man who will crash the car to keep us from asking about his relationship with Epstein.

Trump is a moron and a bully. He's using tariffs to bully other countries and shake them down because he's a thug and that's all he knows. We, the American consumers, will pay the price.

You actually believe this garbage?

What specifically is garbage?

The logic is to distract from Epstein

It's a national sales tax.

When you describe it in those terms, a light bulb goes off in people's heads.

The goal is to raise tariff revenue to (partially) offset the decrease in revenue from highest income bracket and capital gains tax cuts. Money comes from a lot of pockets and gets placed into a few pockets.

In Europe you rarely see an American car due to tarriffs. A Chevy Corvette had a high tarriffs. I saw a video once when Chevy brought a brand new top of pond Corvette to Germany to drive on Autobahn and due head to head to head promo races with Porsches and
Ferraris. There was a big appetite for the car among German sports car people but tarriffs made it way to expensive to buyers

That may have been true 20+ years ago, but now the demand for American gas cars is non-existent in Europe. Even if there was some demand for a Corvette...it's like a tiny market. Europeans definitely have no interest in SUVs.

In Norway, 97% of new car sales are electric. Tesla is of course selling some cars, but literally the entire world hates Elon, so now it's European and Chinese manufacturers. Electric is making major inroads in other European countries as well and the US is falling way behind making electric cars.

You do understand of course that now US cars will be more expensive then European, Japanese and Korean cars because they only have a 15% tariff while US manufacturers will be paying the cost of 50% tariffs on alumnium and steel and 25% tariffs on parts from their own factories in Canada and Mexico.

No, I don't understand the logic of it.

I think it's part of moves to show that America dominates other countries. They exist for the same reason that we are telling NATO countries to pay more for their defense and the idea that we should buy Greenland and Panama. To show power and control over others. The same power over the average citizen that is also happening at the same time.

Why do we need manufacturing jobs in America? Almost every employable adult has a job. What we need it is to raise wages and benefits for existing jobs. There is nothing magical about manufacturing -- they were good jobs because they were unionized so workers could make a decent living. No employer today is willing to pay decent wages -- even though they are flying themselves and their friends into outer space for 45 minutes for millions of dollars, just for the experience. Meanwhile their employees are in crisis if they need to repair their car here on Earth.

We don't need -- or want -- manufacturing jobs in America. We don't want all that pollution. What we need are decent wages for the plentiful jobs we already have.

I honestly don’t get it- I assume he is just wildly incompetent and confused, but I don’t know what he thinks the point of this is. If people delay purchases and stop buying, it paralyzes the economy. Things are going to get ugly and stay that way until Jan 20 2029. Buckle up, buttercup.

He technically using “emergency powers” to invoke this, which means that the fact we could buy cheap electronics and clothing and wine the past 2-3 yrs is somehow an emergency situation ??! This will go to Supreme Court but they are basically asleep on the job.

We actually have hundreds of thousands of unfilled manufacturing jobs. Many are located in NC, GA, SC and require technical skills (whether as an electrician or pipe fitter or machinist et al).

That doesn’t help the kid who graduated HS and didn’t learn any skills nor the person living in the middle of WV where there are no jobs (nor ever will be).

Of course the latter group thinks it’s due to immigrants or some other grievance.
