| This board skews HNW/UHNW. It’s not representative of the general population, and that’s literally the reason why a lot of us are here. You can scroll on by the posts that don’t apply to you. |
I know! That was a fun thread that I had totally forgotten about. |

| Oh OP, please get back to your office job. |
| I’m also wealthy. Money doesn’t heal the holes in my soul. Mine have to do with my mom. I respond to people who sound similar to my mom. It never helps. Like Sisyphus, I keep trying. |
Or, it “skews” to be reasonably representative of the region overall, which skews high income vs the rest of the country but certainly not disproportionately UHNW. A lot of people come here for escapism and talk about their trials and tribulations of having a NW of 50M. But a lot of it is of questionable veracity. There’s no reason to think that the proportion of UHNW people on DCUM is several times higher than out in the world around us. There are roughly 6200 people and 2500 households in the top 0.1% in the DC area out of over 6M. My guess is a small number of them make up a large chunk of the UHNW posts and the rest are pretending. |
| I’m sure there are some trolls, yes, but there are likely others like me who don’t live in the DC area who found this site by Googling HNW/UHNW topics. So, board disproportionately skews wealthy. |
| Can’t you do something meaningful? So many people are suffering. |
People can do both. Can’t you do something meaningful and still be here? But be clear: something meaningful can’t stop all suffering. I can’t even stop my own mom from her suffering. So sometimes I come into DCUM. I try to explain to people if they want x, then they can do y. But it’s clear from the comments they’re not going to do y. They’re going to suffer for the rest of their lives. Money and time are tools. You use them the way you use bulldozers or building plans. Having them isn’t helpful if you keep them in the corner of a shed. They’re also limited in what they can fix. If you’re lonely, unhappy, insecure, jealous, unable to create a plan, lost and stuck in life: money can’t fix that. |
| Care about the problems in the world around us and their hobby is structuring their assets for tax avoidance |
Like overgeneralized assumptions are dysfunctional. But people still construct them to create their own dysfunction. |

Money does not solve your issues but it can offer opportunities to do so which is valuable. Time is money. If you don't have any responsibilities you have time for yourself. Go travel. That will heal you. I guarantee it as it did for me.
