Wow, guess we found the Epstein conspiratorial crowd today. |

No one has heard of Claremont Graduate U. It always seemed a bit like a scam to me. A colleague just get their "PhD" from CGU and it cost a lot but didn't teach them much or make them employable.

+2. Stupid post. |
| Oh wow this is a serious issue. Wouldn’t be surprised if a Claremont college closes. |
Same. Pomona student never took a class there. |
Still at it little Troll? |

This article sheds light on the issues.

Yeah sounds mismanaged.
I have some concerns about 5Cs. Lots of head changes afoot. Interim or new heads at Pomona and Pitzer, and a new head yet to be identified at CMC. Harvey Mudd seems solid at least. |
CMC is going through a natural transition: Hiram has been at the helm for over a decade. Eventually you do leave, and he has a very strong record before CMC that he's building off of, while also basically building the entirety of modern CMC. The next president will do great. Pomona has no interim currently. Gabi left for a year, because she was extremely unpopular for arresting students and causing distress. President Gaines had actually been an admin before and led the college well. Now Gabi is back after a research sabbatical, and is accelerating her campaign (with rumors she will eventually step down as professor of neuroscience and english). Pitzer has not had an interim in a while and has held perfectly steady since Strom Thacker (PO '88) took over 2 years ago. Harvey Mudd actually had a president change just this last year. The only 5c with an excessive history of switching out high admin is Scripps: https://scrippsvoice.com/suzanne-keen-whered-she-go/ |
+1, Average US College president tenure is around 5.9 years. President Starr has been with Pomona since 2017, President Chodosh joined in 2013, prior to the current president Harvey Mudd had the same president from 2006-2023, Pitzer's last president stayed from 2016-2022. I doubt these concerns are valid. |
How exactly do you know the next president will do "great"? They have not yet even identified a sucessor. Lots can go wrong in the wrong hands. Sorry I mixed up Pitzer with Scripps. Pomona leadership has been problematic I agree. |
Because CMC is at a healthy point, with a fanatic alumni base with amazing outcomes. They literally can find any alum in higher ed or really any reasonable figure who can lead an economics institution, and they will excel. There's no reason to fret as if the institution will collapse just because 1 guy isn't running it. It is a highly successful liberal arts colleges that feeds students into lucrative careers with very successful alumni. Williams doesn't burn when they get a new college, neither did Pomona, neither does any institution. It is on the right track, and the board of trustees has continued to make good decision. President Starr has already made a lot of different moves than during the Palestine era and has continued to keep the student body informed, while attracting donors. I really don't see why anyone would be scared of the Claremont Colleges. |
|
President Starr handled the Palestine shenanigans well! She arrested/suspended protesters who assaulted admin and caused a nightmare situation on campus and reeled the campus back into shape from excessive antisemitism. She invested a ton into sustained dialogue and Israel/palestine talks and resources on both sides.
She then doubled down that Pomona is a college for people of all backgrounds, across the world, and began the global Pomona campaign. Hate all you want, but she did nothing wrong. |
Any president who arrests their own students, because they cannot handle a situation is going to be outlandishly unpopular on both sides. Her inaction was the issue. |
“'CGU has been operating at a deficit for more than 10 years,' Kirley wrote." Sounds like Middlebury. |
