HHI 1.5 M, NW 7 M.
We always pay for business class for my parents when they visit from Asia, and also used to pay for my late in-laws. We get premium economy for ourselves. |
Last trip to/from Europe, I used points + $$ to upgrade one way, for flight home I upgraded with $$. DH paid business/first both ways, but his company paid for it. HHI $500k+ NW approx $5M. |
Retired so only investment and pension income. We fly First domestically and Business internationally. Have accumulated a lot of points, but have yet to try using them, maybe will give that a go soon. So, we pay cash.
It's not a good value by any rational measure, but flying in Economy is so unpleasant, with Economy Plus being better but still uncomfortable, that we pay the insane differential in return for the more relaxed and less stressful experience. On overnight flights the value proposition is a little better because we can usually manage to get some, albeit not particularly restful, sleep, which does allow us to arrive at our destination in better condition than would be the case had we been sitting upright and sleepless for the entire flight. Is that worth thousands of dollars more than the people in the back of the plane paid? Who knows; it's entirely subjective. |
Correct, not OP, but I like the topic of who the heck is actually paying full retail? I think that distinction needs to be made vs. points/upgrades etc. |
Same NW. Biz for crossing an ocean, economy for domestic. Although, when it's just the two of us, we've upgraded to first on west coast trips for the more comfortable seat. |
I am paying full retail x4. Flying to Europe in the summer is a zoo. Business class gets us into the club and allows us to really sleep overnight. The whole experience starts the vacation from IAD. Yes, it's a privilege and a splurge, etc. but at over $10M NW and in our mid-50s, now is the time. |
No, most people are not using points. Most people are business travelers and the company is paying for it. |
HHI $800K
NW $6-$7M Early 50’s. We pay for international b class. Not to Western Europe or north/Central America. But everywhere else. Usually on points but occasionally paying outright for our family of 4. We are fairly frugal on most things. This is our big splurge. |
This |
We had HHI of about $250k, house and car paid for. We bought business to Singapore, Australia, London, Paris, everywhere once we were 60+. |
Retirement net worth 5 million. AGI around 350k. We pay business class for a family of 3. Worth every penny for flights longer than 5 hours. |
Ok true. I meant points or company funds. Most people in business class are not paying cash for personal travel. Our friend flies to Singapore e/o month for work. He says it’s $7k each time he goes. |
Not us, we pay the full fare. I'm not sure how anyone knows the percentages of passengers who pay personally in cash, who use points, who are upgraded due to status with the airline as very frequent flyers, or whose tickets are purchased by someone else like an employer, a conference host, etc. |
Interesting. We have higher income and NW and have never paid for business class on personal travel. |
Why do people with money get off on being so cheap? Flying sucks. I have a high HHI and fly business alll the time.. I mean, I guess I could hoard it, but I'd rather spend my money on being comfortable. Spent too many years poor and miserable. Oh wait...here come uthe inevitable " you won't stay wealthy spending money on frivolities like flying."
Fine then. In the meantime, enjoying the legroom |
