People who pay for business class

What is your HHI?
What is your net worth?

I am specifically looking for people who pay and not use points that they accrues from credit cards or work travel.

I’ve only paid once on a cross county flight. I had multiple legs on the West Coast before flying back it and it was incredibly inexpensive to my surprise, so I paid $400-500 to upgrade on the one leg, which was direct. I haven’t flown overseas in awhile, but I’ll buy business for anything over 8-10 hours from here on out. NW. $8M.

Pay? For me?

Up to 5 hour flights, almost never. If I see a good deal or I’m in a bad mood when booking, yes.

5 to 8 hours, almost always I can find a palatable fare.

More than 8, business/first or I’m not going.

But, this is for me. I don’t have a spouse/kids to make it unreachable.

I'll give you the inverse. HHH is about 1.5 and I would never pay for business out of pocket. Points for a long international trip but cash? No way. I can put up with anything for five hours. Also I routinely travel with my three small children. Obviously I'm not paying for five business class tickets and when I'm not with them I could sit in the middle seat in the back row and it would feel like first class on Emirates.

To each their own though, I spend money on stupid shit that I'm sure confuses a lot of people.

Close to retirement; net work a couple of million. DH has started doing this on long trips, realizing that "you can't take it with you."

We are retired and almost always travel business or first class. We have a very high net worth and while we are pretty thrifty on most things being comfortable in a plane is now a high priority. Yes, it is a big premium but we search for the best fares. When you reach age 65 and your children and grandchildren are well provided for you begin to spoil yourself.

My friends who aren’t rich but are a lot heavier do it - it’s cheaper and more comfortable for them than two seats in economy.

Agree on the first part, heavily disagree on the second part. It's usually way more than 2x.

I’m very similar. We have income of about 1.5m and we fly spirit or whatever discount line all the time. We are not big people, I’m going be with my kids anyways, it’s just not worth it to me.

We will pay up for economy plus on an international flight if the price is right. Everything domestic is economy. Only time I’ve done business class is either trading in points on a long international trip or for business related travel where the company was footing the bill.

You don’t need permission to buy business class seats.

We fly business on overnight international flights and more recently, sometimes if we are flying to the west coast. HHI over $2m and NW multiples of that.

HHI 1.1 and only get for 6+ hr flights.

I just booked a last-minute trip where I am flying solo. On the way out there were no coach seats left, and on the way back it's a redeye and I thought it would be nice to have the space and early boarding and maybe a drink included. This is the first time I've paid for the upgrade.

But usually, it's not worth it to me. Coach is fine. I've even done international redeyes in coach when I was younger although I probably wouldn't attempt that now.

We are splurging on a European vacation with expensive full price business class seats. NW $10 M. We were not able to get an upgrade so are sucking it up. We fly economy for regular flights.

Most people are using points aren’t they?
