Running coach to help with speed?

My kid was already fast but somewhat inconsistent in that regard. I got her a legitimate sprint coach this summer and after just three sessions, you can already see the difference. The toes, knees, hips, shoulders, and arms all have to work together like a machine. There are drills and exercises that help bring all that together. I.e., you wouldn't go to a baseball coach to help you with soccer training.

Agreed. Can you share the sprint coach your child worked with?

Yes -- if you could please share the sprint coach that would be greatly appreciated! My DS is asking for help and motivated to work on this and want to help him in whatever way we can. Thanks!

+1 for FC Training Grounds has been extremely beneficial for my DC's. They have a number of different programs. Definitely not a waste of money as i saw measurable progress

He is a bit shorter than his teammates (they all seem to have gone through growth spurts early, while DS is now starting to grow) and feels working on his speed will help him. Is there such a thing as a running coach for soccer players? He has previously done some speed and agility training at Capstone however their facility is so small practicing sprints/working on speed didn't feel super effective. He is already pretty quick with ball skills and with the ball at his feet. He just needs help speeding up his pace from point A to point B. Would appreciate any recommendations from others who have found a way to help their DC and have had positive experiences. TIA!

Here are my recommendations:

1) Hire a track coach for 3-4 sessions to just learn the mechanics of running. I went to my local high school and got one but you can also use the CoachUp app.

2) Google the Atomic Workout on YouTube. You get faster by “running faster.” This has been the easiest way to incorporate top end speed training in my DS’s schedule. 15 minutes 2x a week is all that is needed.

3) Top speed is different than acceleration and agility. Find a system, any system of basic speed and agility to do 2-3x a week. We have done Rápido by 7MLC which cost us $15.

4) Soccer speed is about strength and explosion. As others have mentioned, box jumps, single-leg hops, pogo jumps, hill sprints and resisted sprinting will all help your DS develop explosiveness. We have also incorporated body weight squats, lunges, planks and situps as those impact the posterior chain and will impact your child’s speed. Google 200 squats program and you will find the lunges, planks and situps ones. All free on the internet and it takes my DS 20 minutes 3x a week.

5) Finally, all of this is independent of game speed which you mentioned. Game speed is different and can only be solved by playing against faster people and more situations and mentally processing faster. Small-sided games are ideal. During the summer, there are lots of 3v3live.com and 5v5soccer.com tournaments as well as VAStreetSoccer on IG if you don’t have local pickups. Also, have your DS ask the coach for specific recommendations of what he/she wants. For example, on the wing, my DS’s current coach wants him to beat the man 1v1, then look to either to take a shot or make a pass. Some people will over analyze these instructions but they make my DS’s job simple and he makes quick, effective decisions.

Pick 1, 2 or 3 and implement or do them all eventually. Start slow, wherever your DS is and be patient with the process. It does not happen overnight and it does not have to cost a small fortune. Good luck!

It does not happen overnight, preach! Good points but this last statement is the one most if not all will fail with. This takes years and luck but you can only control the time you put in

My son and his friends trained with a guy who is certified personal trainer, runs insanely fast like a sub 3 marathon, and played professional futsal as a gk. He just went to loudoun east.
