Running coach to help with speed?

DS wants to work on speed in game play. He is a bit shorter than his teammates (they all seem to have gone through growth spurts early, while DS is now starting to grow) and feels working on his speed will help him. Is there such a thing as a running coach for soccer players? He has previously done some speed and agility training at Capstone however their facility is so small practicing sprints/working on speed didn't feel super effective. He is already pretty quick with ball skills and with the ball at his feet. He just needs help speeding up his pace from point A to point B. Would appreciate any recommendations from others who have found a way to help their DC and have had positive experiences. TIA!

HP Elite has two speed classes. DD took and benefited from the first one.

He needs to run more and can build up to doing some sprints during those runs

Hills
Stairs
Explosion is built through those.

FC Training Grounds has done wonders for my kid.

I've been through it with my DS. Tried different trainers/training but honestly what worked was hill sprints. Just find a hill and have him sprint at least 2-3 times a week.

HP Elite, FC Training ground False 8.... all these places are just money grabs. They sell you the idea that they will help you. I would recommend getting a gym membership and working with a CERTIFIED personal trainer.

Agree. HP Speed has been really good but doesn’t necessarily help with running mechanics as directly as a personal training. HP Speed and Speed 2 are really good options, but also think a training is super beneficial, especially as you need to age appropriately strengthen muscles and establish proper running mechanics.

Peak Performance is great for this. Or Healthy Baller has speed and agility training

There is much more to speed than hard work (whether through HP elite or doing your own hill sprints). High-end sprinting is about mechanics. My kid was already fast but somewhat inconsistent in that regard. I got her a legitimate sprint coach this summer and after just three sessions, you can already see the difference. The toes, knees, hips, shoulders, and arms all have to work together like a machine. There are drills and exercises that help bring all that together. I.e., you wouldn't go to a baseball coach to help you with soccer training.

Make you faster than your natural ability’s you can become more athletic and increase lung capacity but if you are naturally slow you will stay slow. DS is on a team where the star striker is slow as molasses and he has a running trainer and did all the training and guess what… he still slow.

Placebo or actually faster? Luckily, this is easy to test.

Agreed. Can you share the sprint coach your child worked with?
