The one vehicle I’ve seen everywhere .. rich, poor, and in the middle ..everyone seems to have one

Thank you for voicing this! I’ve been thinking about it for 9 months. Fancy private school pickup: Telluride. My kids’ admittedly trashy sport in a rural area: telluride. Middle of nowhere: Telluride. Big city: Telluride.

It fascinates me because it’s a car model that seems to transcend race and class, at least where I live on the west coast. I love to play “guess who’s driving the Telluride” in parking lots because I’m always wrong.

It's a great car, but it's a cheap Honda knockoff. We seriously debated getting one before getting our Pilot—but decided Kia's track record of quality wasn't as good as Honda's and that's why there's a price difference.

Wrong. Their perceived track record isn't as good. Honda is junk now too like everything else.

We were looking at Lexus and on a whim test drove the Telluride. Within minutes in the driver’s seat, I’d made my decision. Same with my car-obsessed husband. We love it.

I love my KIA Telluride.

We've had zero problems with it.

I was never a KIA fan or considered them until I met DH. He came with a KIA car that did multiple cross-country drives for moves. I believe it was a Stinger model but that name could be wrong. He traded it with around 140k miles on it, still kicking, and got a decent trade in price for it too. He has a KIA K5 car now and loves it. Again, zero problems.

When I was looking for a new SUV to replace my 2016 Honda Pilot, I test drove a newer Honda Pilot and this KIA Telluride. The Telluride won hands-down. It's a more spacious and comfortable ride when compared to the Pilot. My 2016 Pilot was much larger and more spacious than the current, newer model Pilots. The Telluride trunk is larger than the Pilot's, which is important for us since we have 2 kids in different travel sports. I was surprised to learn that the Telluride also scored slightly higher in safety rankings than the Pilot.

We've influenced other family members to buy KIAs as well. My sis just bought a KIA Seltos because she wanted to upgrade from a car to a small SUV. And my MIL bought a KIA Carnival van. I don't understand why all grandparents like to buy vans. They hardly transport more than 1 or 2 kids at a time and they never have them for more than 3-5 days, ha.

This post is very interesting to read…..

What is the price difference between this KIA vs. a Honda or Toyota??

To the poster who wrote that Hondas are junk now - why do you say this?

I have been driving Hondas for years and the reason why primarily is that I hate taking my car into the shop and my Hondas have broken down less than my previous domestic cars (like my Mercury and Ford!)

Never buying a Kia or a Hyundai. They both refused to fix an easily solvable problem that made their cars incredibly easy to steal.

They’re everywhere. My friend just bought one. It’s nice. Definitely not a luxury vehicle, but solid and a good looking car inside and out.

immobilizers have been standard in cars since the 90s!! They are legally required on cars in Germany, UK, Canada and Australia.

Yet they removed this $4 part for many cars from 2011-2022.

Now imagine what expensive safety feature or improvement they may skimp on.

I do feel like newer Hondas are somewhat lacking. Some like the HRV are built in Mexico, which seems suspect.

But mechanics would not suggest a Kia. Inexpensive way to get an attractive car… But they’ll be paying for it later. Or society will.

Unless it turns out to be some kind of amazing anomaly.

This year we almost bought Kia sorrento instead of Honda Pilot. Sorrento was $28k before bargain. We paid $42k for pilot. We need 3 rows car. We were told not to buy sorrento because sorrento will need fixing a lot compare to pilot. But the price of sorrento was too good to let go.

This seems much more reasonable than my college roommate, who I love dearly and still keep in touch with, calling the Lexus RX 350 "the Lexus that everyone has."

Nope - I knew immediately which car the post was about. People love it because it has 3 real rows without being as ungainly as a Suburban or tacky like an Escalade. Tellurides were on some insane backorder list a couple years ago because there aren’t other cars like it. Wealthy families have one for the nanny or for carpools, they aren’t looking for longevity and don’t care about the brand being low end.

My brother in Colorado has one.

Great for car camping.

He is rich. I don’t know anyone poor with a telluride.

Kia is a great company.
