hair in olden (older) days

FWIW, I did bathe in lakes and rivers but it was a pretty stinky month.

Guy I knew in college said he had really greasy hair before, parents took him to a dermatologist and he was told to not wash his hair for a month. He said it got really nasty for quite awhile but it fixed the problem. He'd been showering more and more to cut the oils and it just rebounded.

So why do women’s hairs always look so much better thab mine in old photos and paintings? I mean even way back in time.

Non-digital lower resolution photos were the original "filters" and paintings, well that's up to the artist's interpretation and they took liberty with it since they were commissioned to make a nice flattering painting.

But, but ... Molly Ringwald's hair! No, I know what you're saying. But those girls had perms and teased out their hair and then hairsprayed it to death. I feel certain it felt disgusting to touch.

People powdered their hair to soak up the oils. They used curlers and hot irons.

I don't think their hair looked better. I can't stand fussy hairdos. 19th century hair with the middle part and sausage curls looks terrible and the accurate 'do that Michelle Pfeiffer had in The Age of Innocence even managed to look terrible on a beautiful woman. I don't think later styles look much better. There were awful styles like beehives. I can't imagine doing that to myself.

I never feel 💯% clean if I do not shampoo my hair every time I shower or bathe…and since I feel gross unless I bathe daily I tend to shampoo daily.

I also have very thick, course hair and use a lot of product in it so daily shampooing is necessary.
My hair is also dry so I make sure to use a good moisturizing conditioner as well as a leave-in conditioner as well.

Oh and a weekly deep conditioner too!

Your need to have clean hair is psychological, not physical. Your hair would do better if you washed it less often, since you say it tends to be dry. You are replacing your natural oils with multiple conditioning products that you wouldn't have to use if you wash your hair less frequently.

That being said, the transition is often rough, because your sebum-producing glands need time to adjust. And I entirely sympathize with the need to "feel" clean! But for your hair's health, you should wash it less often.

Curly hair is usually very dry - while I condition daily, I wash my hair 2-3 days per week. If I washed every day, even using sulphate free products meant for curly hair, it would be a frizzy, dried out mess

But infernal, everyone smelled, had lice and bed bugs and it was all very unhygienic and people died of many preventable infections due to this.

Empress Sissi had someone wash her luxurious locks with eggs and brandy, 3x week.

Oh how foul she must have smelled!
Rotting eggs, dirty scalp and booze. Anything for beauty.

I have naturally thick, shiny hair. It definitely looks best when shampooed every day or every other day if I don't work out.

I HAVE noticed that every person I have known to be doing the "no poo" method OR white women who decide to wash their hair only once or twice a week THINKS their hair is "healthier", but it always looks flat and dull and there is sometimes a smell.

I can smell how oily people's hair is when they don't wash it daily. I also smell dry shampoo and it stinks! Silky hair must be washed daily, no exceptions.

Oh, please. There are lots of exceptions. Some of us have very dry, brittle hair. And hairdressers will always say you should never wash your hair every day - it's terrible for it. Unless you have extremely greasy hair, in which case you definitely do need to wash often.

Your hair would be much less dry if you'd stop washing it every day. Has no one ever told you this?

Yes, because you wash it every day

Lol. I do not care

My DD has gorgeous, thick blond hair and only washes it once a week — otherwise, it would be too dry. She does not smell.

Wigs! Even Jackie Kennedy reportedly work wigs.

If you’re referencing models and actresses, they had their hair done professionally before they were filed or photographed.
