They live on the divided assets from their divorce, in addition to alimony. If they were smart, they saved on the sly and probably have some good jewelry they can sell in a pinch. They can remarry, and they have their adult children to help them. So usually they're fine, as long as they didn't have a restrictive prenup.

Reminds me of Ellen Barkin. When she divorced Ron Perelman, she sold all her jewelry that he had given her during the marriage. There was a lot and she got a tidy sum. It was like a savings account.

This. My brother has a trophy wife he is separated from. She looks great and seems super happy to be a hot empty nester 50-something. Lots of trophy wives know exactly what they want and that is the kind of person who will be happy regardless. Not the life for me but kudos to her!

I think the point is - by 50 the trophy wife has accumulated enough assets that she doesn’t care if her DH goes off with a 25 year old (which btw unless you are actually Rupert Murdoch, is not that common. Even rich guys are not endlessly attractive to 25 year olds, at least not the ones who make credible wives or girlfriends. see: Bill Belachik for cautionary tale).

Exactly. Wealthy men like to have social lives and their businesses sometimes require it. They don’t want the kind of unstable and likely unsavvy type of 25 year old who would be attracted to them. It might be different for the entertainment industry but a 55 year old law partner or executive does not want a messy 25 year old to be in charge of dinner parties with the clients. Because don’t doubt it - being the wife of a rich guy involves that kind of work even if she is not doing the actual cooking and cleaning. She’s doing the organizing and hosting and needs to be able to talk to the other wives.

Will he bang a 25 year old, sure. Marry - probably not.

You are assuming that most "lose their looks." I can assure you that in my circle, the wives work hard up until they no longer can to look good. Staying slim, physically active, and surgery are part of our culture. The husbands are just as vain too!! Smart trophy wives stay trophy wives.
