Biking 2 miles in 95-100F?

Two miles? That should be very straightforward. Just drink enough water during the day.

I’m very weather cautious but a 2-mile bike commute wouldn’t concern me. Bring water and a Gatorade. Wear loose fitting wicking wear. And if you want you could use a sports towel soaked in ice water. But two miles on a bike won’t take very long and you get a bit of a breeze as you go. I’d feel differently about a 2-mile walk.

2 miles? was this a typo and you meant 20??

OP here. Except it takes a lot more time with red lights and intersections. During which I gently poach in my own juices. Also there's a hill.

OP said they’re riding a bike.

When’s the last time you saw a bike stop at a red light?

What can I do to make this less of an ordeal?

You’ll be fine plus going a 4 min mile pace is good breeze anyhow. 2 miles is only 8-10 mins!!

I would do Glen echo to White House area trails and bike lanes then shower and would be fine.

How bad will your heart rate get? Do you usually overheat when biking?

2 miles I would wear my work clothes. Similar to when I biked three times that in Asia to school or home.

What do you mean afternoon?

You’re doing a clunky city bike and hoping it’s available?

How do you get your bike back to work the next day?

+ 1

Only if tons of cross traffic.

I don’t think Op has enough common sense to be bike commuting in a busy city. Abort!

2 miles is a very short distance on a bike.

Do you have freezer at work? I freeze small washcloths in a ziploc bag, and then use them to cool myself while biking (usually stick them on my stomach or in my bra). I bike 8 miles, and 2 frozen packets last me the way.

I assume OP is female and either a troll or going to leave a 5 day pile up of unprofitable City Bikes at her apartment sidewalk. Should be glorious.

OP here.

The morning commute is not a problem. The afternoon commute will be with a 110F heat index. I obey all red lights. So yes, since I'm not fit, I worry. Bus would be even worse, because there's no direct bus route and I'd need to wait in the sun at the bus stop near my workplace - there's no shade. I have no access to a car for this week.

Thanks, PP, for your ice cloth advice. I might try that.

I don’t see a big deal and every place that is 110f is this week is flat like a pancake desert or prairie.
