| THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY POWER OUTAGES IN THIS AREA. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AT ALL AND THIS WOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY. |
1. still way cheaper than CA MA etc 2. false. |
You're a liar. They do not offer reduced usage times in NOVA. I know because I called about this. |
Its combination of old infrastructure with raised power lines and lots of trees. |
NP. When did you call? More than 5 years ago? We've been on Dominion's "off peak" plan for 5 years. It doesn't' really save us money in the winter months, but it does in the summer. They also have some plan where you get a credit if you reduce power use in certain blocks of time that they text/call/email about. https://www.dominionenergy.com/virginia/rates-and-tariffs/off-peak-plan |
Pepco gets a lot of crap but what they did/have continued to do after the derecho in 2012 has REALLY improved things on this side of the river. |
no one wants to force them to put all the power lines underground, i'd make them do it but i am not president or governor |

Trees that the power company can't cut or the community complains about the trees. It's like the only place available for trees is under power lines. |
Honestly, I'm pretty impressed with Dominion. I don't love the above ground lines, but it would be crazy expensive and disruptive to bury them. You can still get outages with buried lines. The times we've lost power, it was restored pretty quickly. Yesterday's storm was huge. Over 200k lost power. That's over 7% of their entire customer base. (shockingly, our lights didn't even flicker yesterday w/ all above ground lines. But it's definitely gone out before) |
They need to bury more lines. I’m really tired of the outages. Makes no sense that we lose power and three blocks away they never lose power. |
| You would need to pay a ton if they buried their lines - it’s not happening. Do you think it’s free? |
This is the first time since the derecho that we have lost power for more than a couple hours. Yes, we got our power back at noon yesterday, some of the last houses. We could see them working down the road the whole time. After the derecho, Dominion went through and cut every tree near the power lines. It's been 13 years, time to do it again. |
