The quintessential college Amherst College is the best! The Harvard of the Nescac!

Amherst was great. But it has gone all-in on performative wokeness (and no, I'm not a Trumper). Diversity is an incredible thing. But they have gone too far in pushing it.

Wow am I happy I didn’t go to that school. It looks underwhelming, at best. The second photo is downright ugly.

First of all, the hating isn't necessary. If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Two, I'm guessing you were rejected.

Three, personally, that is exactly what I think college is supposed to look like. Beautiful school. And I have no ties at all to Amherst.

I didn’t apply. Went to Wellesley then Harvard. I don’t understand why you’re so defensive of a school you didn’t attend-if anything, sounds like you got rejected and need to compensate.

You think colleges should look like Eastern Europe? That’s not a good photo, even if Amherst is pretty.

Agree. My URM DS was turned off by this (accepted and chose another college). It made him feel like they wanted him for his identity rather than his abilities. He was also worried about the cliques in the social scene. This is a problem at most LACs, but Amherst has is particularly bad due to the high proportion of athletes and FGLI. We definitely saw it in the dining hall when we visited.

NP: I agree with the other poster. Only low class trash feels the need to insult a school. Plus saying "I didn't go to a school because it is ugly" says a lot about your intelligence and priorities. I'm guessing there were a lot of men who said that about you "I don't want to date her because she is ugly."

I didn’t say that- I said I didn’t apply. The rest of this is projection…

Wall Street continues to have a tiresome and antiquated fixation on a dead magazine's arbitrary rankings. The amount of talent that finance is leaving on the table because they are stuck in 1955 is remarkable. For the past 30 years, most talent has gone into tech if they are interested in money. Conventional mediocrity with hooks and connections is Wall Street. If that's aspirational for your 17 year old, you did something wrong with your parenting.

Amherst, Wesleyan, and Tufts are far and away the least attractive NESCAC campuses. Amherst is the only one that is both unattractive and has a small enrollment though…

+1. Weirdly defensive posts here. If you don’t want someone to say a campus is ugly, don’t post a pic of a bunch of dead grass.

Middlebury has great placement. Bowdoin students will get interviews too but it’s not as much of a target. Williams and Amherst remain at the top for finance. The other NESCAC schools I would not consider to be targets but that didn’t mean some kids don’t break through. Being a student athlete in particular shouldn’t be disregarded as a major benefit.
