Will any new families be sending their kids to SSFS next year?

Well my kid is on a waitlist at one of these schools - interesting to know that SSFS kids skipped the line?

I'm not saying this is fair, but there isn't a line.

I think it was very grade dependent bc no one in our grade from SSFS was able to get in at SAES bc waitlist was too long.

How big are HS classes at SAES?

This happens every year, and it’s not specific to SSFS kids. Almost all schools will consider out-of-cycle applicants under the right circumstances even if they have a waitlist, and they can almost always squeeze in another seat if they want to. The waitlist is not a promise that if a space can be made, the next kid in the pool gets the spot. Schools can and will bypass waitlists for any reason they want.

It’s more of a wait pool than a line.

We are a public school family, but if we need an emergency place to land for a year or less, SSFS is high on the list. I imagine they will take a full pay, above grade level student at any point in the year, and I like what I know about the kids’ experiences at the school.

Three kids through the school all different and it's about as good as it gets in the DMV.

This is something people never seem to understand about privates. They don't have to follow equitable rules for admission and they regularly make exceptions for families they are motivated to accept. A late applicant who is a very good fit for the school will absolutely get a second look even as on-time applicants who were deemed not a good fit during the normal application process will not.

If you pass on a great kid fleeing SSFS this year because you don't want to bump up a class size by a few digits, those kids will find somewhere else and you won't see them again. So schools will make allowances for a kid they think will really thrive at the school.

Plus schools know that a kid from a private school will most likely stay and be committed to their private school which is less risk, full pay. Class size at SAES is 100 in upper grades.

90-100 is pretty good for this area. Bullis is 150, GDS and Sidwell are 120, and I think SJC if 150+. Otherwise 100 is pretty much the best tier of “big” for private schools.

St Johns is a healthy 300. 100 is small for older kids.

But what schools other than the ones listed above are 125 or more?
