Both my kids had good MCPS MS experiences. One was a magnet MS one was local MS. Teachers were mostly really good - every once in awhile a not great teacher. Both kids loved art and music and great, dedicated teachers in those areas. Also, they liked the after school clubs and activities. |
My child had a fantastic experience in Julius West. He is finishing 8th grade there. |
Both of my kids had a good experience at TPMS (non magnet) |
My kid is just finishing MS. Academics were meh, he had a couple of amazing teachers but the rest kind of phoned it in, social was fairly calm. We’re glad to have e it behind us. |
A lot of these responses sound like middle schools from W clusters…I’m not shocked! |
MS is tough because the kids hormones are all over the place. Like every school (or office), some teachers are good some are bad and most are adequate.
For me, the worst part of being in a MS is the smell. The combination of BO and Axe is enough to make anywhere awful |
DC has had a terrific experience at Loiederman. We're really pleased with the teachers both inside and outside the performing arts. If I have any issues they are with curriculum, especially writing. But the rest has been great. |
Not at all. |
My DD said that the kids were just mean in MS. I think it is the time of life |
How is that bizarre? A lot of people have stepkids for example. |
MCPS actually runs a junior high model but calls it MS because it’s grades 7-8. A |
DP I found it a bit weird too. Obviously there’s a time and a place to talk about bio and adoptive children but distinguishing this way did sound a little strange to me as well when the info (whether or not the kids were biologically related) wasn’t relevant to the topic. It would have felt more natural to me to say older or younger children here. It reminded me of an older relative who always seemed to need to point out which grandchild was adopted. That said, it was just a benign comment and I assume nothing about this poster (you?) here. |
My kids both had great middle school experiences! They both had IEP’s and found the support at the middle school level so much better than elementary!
Both learned how to advocate for themselves and academics were fine. This was at Hoover and heard the same from friends any many different schools. Don’t just listen to the naysayers! |
What does this mean? |
