OP here. You misunderstand. I'm not trying to dress to impress people at the recital. I just want some jewelry to liven up this outfit because *I* think it would look better. It's for me. I am wearing something that I will be comfortable in but it is feeling a bit dour and I just want a necklace or something so that I feel more dressed up.

OP here. Obviously I made a mistake in including any backstory here, as some of you are weirdly hung up on it.

I just want something colorful to wear with a black dress that will pop in pictures. I actually have a job and don't normally focus that much on what I wear but would like to look nice for this because we have a bunch of family coming into town and will take photos and I want to look nice for those.

Good lord, I'd have gotten less obnoxious responses if I'd shouted this question out a second story window. What a bunch of haters (thank you to those of you who offered good faith suggestions).
