2026 Girls Lax WCAC + ISL Outlook

Girls go to certain private schools for the lacrosse program? That seems silly.

Not a good look for Visi and a very difficult time to be hiring this late in the season for a replacement.

"parted", not "departed" FFS

That's not even a good attempt to rile us up. Or do you frequent anonymous chat boards about private school lacrosse consistently but are unaware that sports is a consideration on attending a private school.

One of the uninformed masses of DCUM got lost on the lacrosse board.

The Visi coach did a good job, but I am not too surprised to see him leave after DD graduates.

Students transferring out because dad coach left is laughable though

I think what everyone should be saying is thank you to the Visi coach. He came in and kept the ship afloat. It’s way more fun when there are more ISL teams all within the same talent range. As for the athletic department at Visi they’ve consistently been antiquated. Because of the schools proximity to both sides of VA and MD they have the ability to pull really great students. Let’s hope the AD really leans into a good long term hire.

Visi never makes long term hire.

The next HC will last 3 years.

"What travel team's does everyone's goalies play on in both leagues?"

Or perhaps comment on how much a sub-standard league the WCAC has become after the GC NW commit and the SJC Commits to Harvard, NW, Yale and Penn have not left the league? please discuss

Good restart. Will take on the substandard question.

Couple of observations:

There is a tendency to overly focus on a generational talent or major player like the GC player who now plays for NW, or the ND commits from Visi, the UNC commit at SR, etc.

For example, the GC NW player had a tremendous senior class and deep Junior and Sophomore classes out there with her. GC's defense and goaltending in 2024, and this season, were a major contributor to their success. Turns out they didn't lose a game in the DC are this year either, even without her, although they were not as successful against top Baltimore and Philly teams in the preseason.

On the other hand, Visi had outstanding individual players, and maybe the best player in the area, but lost most games against the ISL top 4, and the top 2 in the WCAC.

The player of the year in the WCAC is outstanding, and is headed to Florida, but her team couldn't beat the top two in the WCAC or any of the top 4 in the ISL.

In short, it's a team game. We have teams in both conferences that remain strong, and can beat each other on any given day, as well as play competitive games with other top regions.

The question in terms of what is necessary to elevate one of the schools above the rest and put them on par with the top teams from Baltimore, Philly, and NY (like the 2024 GC team), is where the next generational player will come from--and whether the school has the program depth to surround her with to take that step to national top 5.

That is an intriguing question, but doesn't make the current WCAC or ISL teams "substandard". Several landed in the top 25-40 of all the major rankings (Inside Lacrosse; USA Lacrosse; Lax Numbers).

I will note that the WCAC needs more than just GC to be good. SJC, PVI, and BI (or another program) need to take a step up to be on par with the ISL. SJC looks to be closest to doing so. We will know more about these teams when we see the lists of 2027 Commits and understand whether there are 2029s that can make an early impact.

Also, there are several questions worth asking on the ISL side:

--Is SR able to simply reload with strong 2027 and 2028 players replacing outgoing senior talent?
--Whether Potomac can sustain their position after losing their outstanding 2025 class?
--Who will coach Visi which maintains good talent?
--Can the 2026s at SSSAS carry them to a title?

Will turn it over to others to assess those.

Great post!

Would not surprise me if the dad of the good 26 Visi player took over for a year. More to ensure his daughter has a successful season next year. He would only be a stopgap until she’s gone though. The parents at Visi are too demanding for someone to want to take that gig.

Not a Visi parent, but if I was I would be begging for him to stay. Other boys coaches when they coach girls the team ends up playing dirty and its non-stop yelling from the sideline.

The Visi team under him played hard, but clean and he carried himself with class whenever we played Visi.

Looking forward to watching his daughter play in college. I think its good for Visi's competition if he steps back and just watches his daughter in college too.

Visi's program is a shell of once it was.

They will drop off big in the spring of 2026, regardless who the new HC is.

Don't be shocked if Holy Child and Potomac make the leap over the Cubs next spring.

Maybe in 2027 but in 26 Visi will still have the ND commit.

Potomac will have more to worry from Holy Child and Holton than Visi will in 2026.

I'm obviously a Potomac parent, and understand your perspective. However, we will see.

Visi has a school admin problem. Admin keeps meddling in and doesnt prioritize sports. Visi might look more like Maret in a few years than SR.
