I like the wild caught sardines at TJs and Costco.

Love sardines but it’s one of the casualties of RTO. I used to have sardines or tuna for lunch at least once a week, no more 😢

Hard to describe without having something similar to compare it to for you. Mild, starchy vegetable pudding with a little tang if not fresh. You need to eat it with something salty.

My preschooler used to love sardines. Then I packed some in her lunch a few times in ES, the other kids teased her and she stopped eating them.

Every month or so I do a 72 hour sardine challenge. Only sardines for 72 hours. This helps me keep my weight stable and revs up my metabolism. By the end I am ready to eat something else but this makes me feel amazing.

Be careful if mercury poisoning...

Not a concern in small fish unless some freak pollution accident.

It had a big moment during the pandemic, it’s great. The WSJ usually has some adoration for tinned fish too.

World Market has some very cool options, including the premium Portuguese and Spanish varieties.

Do you understand how food chains work?

Yes, recently discovered these. I love them when the weather gets warm - out of the can, eat with a fresh salad of cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, healthy dash of lemon and salt. Capers if you want.

So far I've stuck to the plain in olive oil, but the flavors seem super interesting.

OP here. YES! I'm pretty sure this is it. My mom was heavy into diet culture, and I was raised in the "fats are bad" era, so this makes sense. The ones I'm eating now are in oil or tomato sauce. I can't decide which I like more.

Thanks for all the ideas! I actually have soba noodles on hand right now, so I know what I'm having for lunch.
