FCPS theatre--WOW! Highly recommend if you are looking for something to do!

YES, I am so bummed we can't go to the kids version of Into the Woods at Oakton, it's one of my favorites and I know my kids would love it.

Aw this is sweet OP. I teach high school and those kids work so hard. Some of the theatre programs are truly phenomenal.

So, you could just go to an evening show and leave after the first act. It's about an hour and a half. The family next to me with young kids did this last night.

If you have little kids, just going to act 1 is perfect for Into the Woods.

The "children's show" is just Act 1--any other changes are minimal.

Sometimes we have positive threads.

We can't ALWAYS be in here bvtching about AAP, boundaries and too much tech.

Lighten up.

Shout out to the tech crews bc the sets are just incredible. I want to get to more FCPS schools to check out their shows next weekend if there are any still going on--it is a bummer they are all out mostly at the same weekend or two.

I haven't been to an Oakton musical in the last couple years, but they traditionally had professional-level musicals with unbelievable talent, outstanding costumes, and outstanding tech. They staged Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Titanic, Addams Family, Mary Poppins, and a series of other shows that were often better than the shows I saw at Signature and Arena. When they staged Catch Me if You Can, they had the real Frank Abignale go to the show! That's impressive.

A few years ago, I saw that Oakton was doing Les Miserables. I have listened to the soundtrack so many times that every note is etched into my memory. When I saw the sign at OHS, I thought --- oh... that is a big show for a high school to put on... it's probably not going to be very good acting, but at least I can sit and enjoy the pit orchestra playing the songs I know and love. So, DH and I went. It was SO good, I got a ticket to come back the next night by myself! Yes, I sat through the three hour epic journey twice in one weekend! I even wrote a letter to their drama dept saying how good it was.

We are going to Into the Woods next weekend. I've never seen that musical, but I'm glad it was good.

I've been to other high schools' musicals, and they were more on the cringey side. If you find a good one --- it REALLY is a bargain!

We saw Hadestown on Friday night and I was blown away! Those kids are supremely talented and the production was incredible.

It’s your post that’s on the cringey side. Oakton student theatre is on par with the excellent programs at many other high schools.

Just stop.

This is a wonderful, positive thread about one of the strongest programs in FCPS, the high school theater program.

If you want to troll, go back to politics or the many other negative threads.

PP decided to claim Oakton’s program was on a different level by calling other schools’ productions “cringey.” STFU.

If you follow FCPS theater arts on Instagram they try to post all the shows. Enjoy! I will definitely attend high school shows well after my kids are done with them. They are fantastic!

Thanks for the list, PP. I try to take my ES-aged kids to as many HS theater productions as I can. They like theater and the price is right.

We saw Spamalot at Mt Vernon this weekend. It was really good, especially for such a small high school.

Are you actually arguing that NO other high school musicals in FCPS have EVER been cringey? That's nuts. They are high schools! They are limited in the pool of people who are interested in performing in any given year. And YES, I have sat through several CRINGEY performances -- that I wanted to get up and leave. But, hey -- they are high school students trying to do their best. That is the reality of it -- people don't expect high school shows to be professional level or even college level (and yes, I've been to a few college level shows that were painful.) But, OHS's performance blew me away! (And no, my kids don't/didn't go to OHS... in fact, they went/go to a nearby HS )
