Tropical Vacation in August

Keep in mind you still need trip insurance for Hawaii. We had our trip interrupted by a hurricane in Hawaii in August!

It’s not “a funny time“ to go it’s an irresponsible time to go.

Not all tropical locations are in hurricane zones.

Hurricanes don’t pop out of nowhere. You have time to cancel before you go, just get insurance.

I never get trip insurance. I figure all the money I save by not buying it (and not needing it 99% of the time) covers the very rare time that it might have come in handy.

Yes, generally it makes sense to self-insure for non-catastrophic costs. Obviously different people have different risk preferences, and different odds of needing to file a claim, of course.

Having needed to tap into insurance after canceling an expensive trip, I simply don’t agree. But yes, everyone has different risk profiles.

What happens if you are in a bad accident?

Aruba is the way to go in August. What is your budget? Do you have any hotel points/affiliations? Are you looking for resort style pools and water activities (kayaks and paddle boards) or want something more low key. Aruba has it all.

Hasn’t happened and is unlikely.

Hi! OP here. Aruba sounds like our best option. We just would love beach time, some snorkeling, and possibly fishing. Any recs would be appreciated!

Very true.

OP, you can do the Northeast of BRazil and you can do it with zero hurricane risk. And it will accommodate every budget you can imagine.

Curaçao. Same climate as Aruba, much less commercialized. Some decent Airbnbs.

Go onto Redweek and rent someone’s
Marriott Surf Club or Ocean Club unit in Aruba. They are right next to each other, along with the full service Marriott and the Ritz. The Surf Club and Ocean Club are condos with kitchens and washer dryers, and are great for family trips.

This is your answer. Aruba is a perfect suggestion. So is Redweek. I would also look at tugs.net to see if there are any rentals.

Back again to say I just looked at the Surf Club on Redweek and they have a 2BR, 2BA unit that sleeps 8 for $4,500, including taxes and fees, for 8/3-8/10. That's a steal. Or a 3BR, 3BA, which is basically a 2BR unit with a studio lock-off, 8/1-8/8 for $6,000.
