Really? If she spit on people, probably the story would be reported the same way. Of course no one deserves to be beat to death. However, in general antagonizing people is a bad idea when you don't know how people will respond and some people are crazy. Even more so if you're not in a familiar environment.

The mother didn't deny he did it and the police accused him of doing this long before they knew he was dead. In any case, seems like it would be pretty easy to verify whether he did it or not. Tons of witnesses. So if it's all some big conspiracy it will come out.

From how the article reads, security was looking for him due to him spitting on the staff, and when they questioned his mom about where he was, she said oh he went to get his jacket and just take a walk. Then, as they searched for him to apprehend him, they found him beaten to death. Now, clearly the penalty for spitting on someone shouldn't be death, but, who knows what he was actually up to while he was "taking a walk". Anyways, this doesn't sound random.

Interesting that you trust the private driver and don’t expect any one following you to the uncrowned beach — which I’m sure is known to locals as a destination for the very moneyed set. How do you square that?

I don't think most people were saying that at all.

If he had some kind of episode, I think mom would explain it. What type of misunderstanding leads to spitting on staff who serve you?

I think the point in people raising it is this is not random violence. It is certainly totally undeserved and unjustifiable violence, but it does not sound random. The OP didn't give context so other people actually read the article and are giving context.

They still have not found Taylor Casey, the woman who went missing at the yoga retreat that is right next to the Atlantis. She’s been missing for about nine months now I believe. I definitely would not go on a family vacation in that area anytime soon.

We have taken two Disney cruises - with family, not my idea - and for the second one we stayed on the boat instead of going into Nassau. It was lovely, much less crowded and there was plenty to do.

Because heavens to Betsy that YOU would ever want to go on a Disney cruise unless someone else made you do it!

Of course not, but the real story is not "tourist goes for walk on the beach and is jumped, and murdered" like OP's post implies. The real story is "tourist spits on multiple hotel staff, tells his mother he is going for a walk, the hotel security are searching for him because he was spitting on staff members, and they find him beaten up on the beach". If you can't see the difference in terms of safety for hotel guests, then, I can't help you.

They're saying "this sounds like something crazy precipitated the attack, not just a tourist walking to his room getting randomly jumped and beaten to death." And you're the only person suggesting that the attack was perpetrated by hotel staff!

It sounds like he was either falling down drunk or, like you said, having some kind of mental health episode. Whichever it was, it led to him physically assaulting multiple people inside the restaurant before he was kicked out, and then [we don't know what he did after being kicked out, but] when they went to look for him they found his body. The fact that he was a man who was kicked out of a restaurant that same night for spitting on multiple people is relevant to the narrative, not just "MD man".

We’ve been to the same spot a handful of times. The first time the driver stayed with us.

There are usually 30 tourists on the beach in front of the restaurant/beach bar. There’s a small two-story luxury condo building next to it. There’s nothing else around; you’d need to drive and park in the restaurant lot to get in. The restaurant is staffed by a dozen people. We don’t stray from the area, but we’ve never seen anyone who doesn’t belong there.

I mean the alternative is that he was normal at dinner, told mom he was going to get his jacket and take a walk, and on the way out/ unbeknownst to his mom/ he spat on the servers. And then, while he was being actively searched for by hotel security, he was found beaten to death. The spitting/ hotel security incident happened prior to him being found dead so it doesn’t sound to me like a cover up. It sounds like he was assaulting people who worked there and then ended up dead not long after. Maybe he approached someone on the beach and tried the same thing and it ended badly. Who knows. But I would believe that his mother might not have seen him spitting on people.
