These jokers at the WH put together the tariff list ordered by top level internet domain names! That's why uninhabited islands are listed as well as others that have an entire GDP of a few million and probably export lobsters while being too poor to buy nothing. Some WH intern put this together over lunch break since they could not agree on what to do and they all went "ah heck with it, do it"

Islands are on the list because countries play games and ship to a low tax location and set that as the point of origin to avoid higher taxes.

These all got the minimum 10% rate. If they indeed exported something, it would show up as a trade imbalance and would have incurred a much higher rate. Quit making excuses and take the L. Your 401k certainly is.

It's not a mistake.

1. Fire more people than you should, and in a capricious way.
2. The workers that are left are demoralized and more likely to leave, because they don't know if another capricious blade will take them out.
3. Now you have to fill back positions that are empty, and a lot of people who were fired have already found other jobs or just aren't going to want to come back.

So now you have a situation in which waiting for normal attrition or going through standard routes to get people out (e.g., PIPs) would have taken forever, but surprise! You "broke" things in a very advantageous way.

4. Hire people to fill the needed slots with an eye for loyalty to the administration, not merit.

Yeah, but they also fired 10+ scientists/lab heads at NINDS. Then admitted it was in error. No loyalty issues there. Just pure stupidity.
