My 15 and 11 year olds enjoyed their time there. |
If you like tours. You can just buy a ticket with transport (buses from different pick up points like schipol airport or a station in Amsterdam and other points that go straight to keukenhof). We picked up the bus from schipol, spent the day in Keukenhof. Much cheaper than the 139$ per person. But I hate tours so avoid them, but ymmv. |
pp again, i thought this was a trip to Keukenhof but it's not even keukenhof. You get to spend about 30 minutes in each of the locations... just spend the day in keukenhof. you can rent bikes and go outside keukenhof to see the flower fields if that's what you'd like. |
I did a bunch of tours including a day trip like that. If you don’t have a lot of time to plan and you don’t want to figure out public transportation, and cost is not an issue, it’s fine. I wouldn’t do tours again, there’s pretty good buses and trains that go to all of these tourist attractions. Or I would cycle there next time. I don’t remember anything they said on the tour, tbh. |
OP here. I wouldn't mind doing it on my own and it is cheaper going to the garden on my own (I think about $40 including bus fare). The only problem is I want to see the tulip fields and I have no idea how to go there without a bike (I don't know how to ride a bike)
What about this one: It is $106 per person and shows 1 tulip farm's fields: https://www.tripadvisor.com/AttractionProductReview-g188590-d23831808-Amsterdam_Day_trip_to_Tulip_Farm_Keukenhof_Windmill_Cruise-Amsterdam_North_Holland.html I will have to check and see if there are any buses going nearby De Tulperij |
For the no-biking person, and anyone who can’t leave the country right now, I highly recommend a trip to see the tulip and daffodil farms in the Skagit River Valley just north of Seattle. I prefer Roozengaarde for visitors because it has an easily accessed display garden, but there are many other working farms. You can also add a drive along the Puget sound and side trips to places like Taylor Shellfish.
(And yes, totally realize that it’s not the Netherlands at all, but it’s also a lot easier for fall bulb ordering and non-cyclists) |
No idea, I was on a girl’s trip. |
Here’s information about public transportation to Keukenhof from their website. You can buy a ticket to Keukenhof that includes public transportation there! I found public transportation to be reliable in Amsterdam. The main problem with tours is that you might not get to spend as much time as you like in the place. You have to be back at the bus for xxx time. Tours are good when public transportation is not good or if you don’t speak the language at all and so are nervous about taking buses and trains on your own. https://keukenhof.nl/en/ov/ |
Question for PPs familiar with the Netherlands: we'll be in NL in late May, past the tulip season. Are there any flower farms worth visiting for whatever other flowers are in bloom? |
In late May you won't see the large multi-colored fields -- but the landscape and farms are still very pretty. Plus, better chance for non-rain. |
Brookside is nowhere near comparable. It really is magical though very, very crowded. |
A few years ago, I took the bus to Kuekenhof. At kuekenhof I took a boat ride. We saw fields while on the bus and from the boat. Easy and not crazy expensive. |
What about early May? Around May 10th? Will the farms usually cut off the flowers at that time? Or should we at least be there by May 1st? Unfortunately we cannot go before April 25th so I wonder if it would be too late. Also, how is the weather there generally in May or late April? Rainy and cloudy a lot or do we get sunshine too? |
Do we need to book the boat ride ahead of time or it something that can be done after we reach Keukenhof? |
