What's not accurate? That there are those pushing for riders to go along with fixing the budget or that the President is or is not supportive of a fix? We've heard the President wants it fixed for a few weeks. A vote still has not been scheduled. Do you believe they are just doing nothing or do you believe they are negotiating concessions?

I admit I simply don't know. Still I would have expected with the President's urging this would have been fixed already.

The details in the original post are inaccurate. I work in 1350 Penn so am a little closer to this issue.

Yes and No

We will have one shot to defend against a potential takeover. We need to be prepared and we need to fight that on a battleground of our own choosing. Fight smarter not harder. This isn't a one and done battle.

We should stop all capital spending that hasn't been started, slow down the spending we've started and preserve cash. In other words, be ready with a $1b capital budget cut that we can argue is compliant. Between the Jail annex, CapOne, and bike infrastructure that is doable.

Oh, and new cop cars, because of their potential dual-use nature, should be the first thing cut.

It's not accurate that these specific things are being demanded in exchange for approving the budget. There are definitely people who want some of those things, that's true. But the guy OP's post is about is not even in Congress.

Trump did say a few weeks ago he wanted this passed, but Congress only returned to D.C. on Monday night, so most of that time, the House wasn't in a position to do anything about it. He also posted again today that they specifically should pass the Senate bill. I suspect -- and it's been reported in a few places today -- you'll see some action soon, before they leave town again for another recess in two weeks.

The ranked choice voting one is just illogical. That’s how you actually get more moderates on the City Council. I suppose Republicans prefer leftists on the Council so they have a boogeyman to rail against.

Why do all these Heritage dorks look the same?

Yet many of these things are referenced in the Make DC Safe and Beautiful Executive Order issued today.

(c) The Task Force shall coordinate to ensure effective Federal participation in the following tasks:
(i) directing maximum enforcement of Federal immigration law and redirecting available Federal, State, or local law enforcement resources to apprehend and deport illegal aliens in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area;
(ii) monitoring the District of Columbia’s sanctuary-city status and compliance with the enforcement of Federal immigration law;
(iii) providing assistance to facilitate the prompt and complete accreditation of the District of Columbia’s forensic crime laboratory;
(iv) in collaboration with its leadership and union, providing MPD with assistance to facilitate the recruitment, retention, and capabilities of its police officers and to facilitate work with Federal personnel, resources, and expertise to reduce crime;
(v) collaborating with appropriate local government entities to provide assistance to increase the speed and lower the cost of processing concealed carry license requests in the District of Columbia;
(vi) reviewing and, as appropriate, revising Federal prosecutorial policies on seeking pretrial detention of criminal defendants to ensure that individuals who pose a genuine threat to public safety are detained to the maximum extent permitted by law;
(vii) collaborating with appropriate local government entities to provide assistance to end fare evasion and other crime within the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority system; and
(viii) deploying a more robust Federal law enforcement presence and coordinating with local law enforcement to facilitate the deployment of a more robust local law enforcement presence as appropriate in areas in or about the District of Columbia, including in such areas as the National Mall and Memorial Parks, museums, monuments

Ok I agree with you.

The 1 billion cut may seem remote to you but what it means in real life is extreme. I’m at a school and we have to turn in budgets showing 10% of staff and other expense cuts starting in April. Police fire and other services to be hit too.

The seven things include - banning noncitizen voting, banning ranked choice, no city services for undocumented residents, taking power away from DC’s AG and giving it to Trump's appointed US Attorney, being able to prosecute all DC youth as adults, directly nominating DC judges.

F4ck this POS. Zero questions need to be asked about why the budget "ballooned". It's our f4cking tax money. Leave us the f4ck alone.
