New Ref Abuse policy

Parents should definitely remind their kids about these new rules.

And did he suck? Cause you know that won't be addressed.

Here are some wise words from an older guy I know: "Most of the refs are not that good. Get over it."

Always the same thing: people (I use this word to be kind) simply do not know the rules, or what it is meant when we talk about “the spirit of the game” but they feel very comfortable making these comments about refs.

But this is the reason why people behave this way: they believe they know, they believe that soccer is like football when you stop the game for everything, they believe they understand all the rules (knowing and understanding is different), they believe refs are one sided. And that lead them to go crazy. This is easier that accepting that you are clueless, and it apparently we live in this world where if you scream something very loud, that is going to make it true. You know like toddlers do.

Worst thing: you see this type of behavior coming from the most adorable people.

Yes, some refs love to hide their lack of knowledge of the rules by hiding behind the "spirit of the game".

Could you do better? If not then keep quiet.

Yes, I can, but I can't be everywhere all at once!

You are clearly making my point, thank you.

Let it be clear: no ref is hiding. they are wearing bring yellow, or in the middle of the field, their decisions is for everyone to see. They are not hiding anything about their knowledge, soccer is popular worldwide because it is a simple game.

What YOU do not comprehend when you hear about it, is that the mention of “spirit of the game” is in the third sentence of the Laws of the Game. That is before any rules are explained. You may not like it, but a ref administering their games according to this spirit is a good ref.

Mistakes happen, which is also accepted on the laws of the game, in the 5th sentence!

So Refs are not hiding anything, their decisions or their knowledge are for everyone to see. And if they revert to the spirit they are absolutely applying the laws. YOU choose to ignore something that does not fit your playbook. But that is on YOU.

Coaches and spectators too, automatic suspension. It can take weeks to edudicate, even if you have VEO or other proof.

I agree this is needed, just wish it had been fleshed out more- what's the appeal process for example

SYC will be the first to have their whole sideline ejected

Question about this: if a parent commutes an offense, is it just the parent suspended from attending the next couple of games or is it parent and child (i.e. the player)?

After watching years of my DD/DS games, there a plenty of bad refs. some really bad calls, some don't even understand soccer rules, some even ends the game early without knowing how long each half is. Refs cannot just blame sideline when some of them are horrendous
We as parents will discuss quietly on the sidelines amongst ourselves if a ref is terrible. Our coach has sent an email to the league after a game. But it's never ever mentioned to a ref. I don't think that's helpful. If the ref doesn't know the rules, yelling at them won't make them suddenly know them.

Exactly why i'm not keeping quiet. Many of these refs are terrible at what they do and are on power trips. At the expense of kids.

I think OP was referring to ref system. They should have internal review of refs before sending them out there to the games. I watched one game this past weekend where they placed 50 or 60 years old lady as a side line for boys game. She obviously cannot run at boys game to call fouls and offsides.

I mean, so what? What difference does it make? Just a run of the mill meaningless game, you should just be glad they have sideline refs.
