That’s a whole different post. Not what OP was talking about. |
Absolutely. Real consequences might lead to them thinking more carefully about their actions. |
Really? A nine year old? Nine year olds don't think about their actions or consequences |
| Yes really. No more threats to commit mass violence and no more disrupting every dang day with physical aggression. No more. I do not care if they are 9. I don't care if they are 5. No more |
Yes they do. |
| I know of three cases at three different schools where kids were falsely accused of threats. It was devastating to them. You need due process, and punishment for kids who make false accusations too. |
Not +1, not what PP said. We're you expelled from school? Is that why you can't read? |
"Never, ever" is extreme for a 9 year old. If you don't believe children can learn, why waste time and money having school at all? |
| When I was 9 I knew not to threaten anyone, much less make a bomb threat against a school. Expel them early I say. The amount of $ wasted on these kids who just wind up jobless or in jail anyways. They cost 10x more per year than kids who are raised right, because they’re all in special programs. Best to weed them out early it will save million$ |
Except children who are expelled for making threats will learn and so will their peers when there are actual consequences. And how can anyone learn in unsafe environments? Being threatened is extreme when you're 9 or 6 or whatever. How can everyone learn when their nervous systems are on high alert? How can teachers teach when they are focused on whether they'll be shot? |
| Expelling a child under 10 for a verbal threat is insane especially w the lack of special education support MCPS currently offers. |
100% |
|
Just out of curiosity, where are these special schools you all refer to? They sure aren't public, so MCPS will spend a fortune to educate them privately. More like, as proven before, because for now anyway we still have to provide free and public education for all kids, they'll just be transferred to another school, where they will be a problem for other students.
|
Completely insane. |
| I'm mixed. I wan't safe schools but I still remember the incident where MCPS accused an ES kid of making an email threat and it turned out someone else at MCPS accessed the kids account and the information was deleted by the MCPS computer staff. The name of a former Sup (who was paid a lot of money to leave) was all over that paperwork. |
