I keep wanting to buy dresses for nonexistent events

We are invited to all types of events so makes sense for me.

So, no? What you are describing is completely different from the OP.

OP, sounds like you love fashion and good deals and it’s basically a hobby for you. I hate that stuff. Can you make $$ from it by figuring out how to use your passions and skills to help people like me when I have an event but hate the shopping?

I wish I could! I have no idea at all how to dress other people - I feel like I have only just figured out (kind of) how to dress myself. But next time you have an event post here and we'll find you something!!

I think you're right about this being a hobby. It's nice to think about that way.

I shop for jewelry. The difference is I don’t buy, just look. I’m the queen of online shopping carts.

Was just going to post this! I get almost the same satisfaction from online shopping and loading up my cart - but not actually pulling the trigger and buying. Very occasionally I will, if I can’t stop thinking about something. But generally I forget about it after adding it to my cart. Win-win.

This is cute.

OP I am like you except I only very occasionally buy. Part of it is wishing my life had more glamour and I had more occasions for some of this stuff. Do miss that phase of life with tons of weddings, going out, work black tie events, etc.

You are not alone.

Only because this forum is anonymous will I admit to having "chosen" many pageant gowns after surfing NY Dress and Couture Candy for hours. I might even have actually purchased one, telling myself I'd find somewhere to wear it, and then ended up donating it to a group that helps girls get free prom dresses. And no, I have never been in a pageant.

OP, show us some links -- at least some similar things!

I have more dresses than I will realistically wear, but it's OK -- I tend to keep things forever. So, I have probably five dresses that are good to wear to weddings. We're in a drought of weddings, but it will pick up, and some of the dresses are timeless and I hope to still be able to wear them.

I have another few that are good for grad parties, and we go to tons of those. So, I just rotate so I'm not repeating with the same groups of people. If I see a dress that I like for this year, I'll probably buy it. This seems mostly harmless ... we're talking 5 or 6 dresses, not dozens.

I feel you, OP. I had been pining after this dress and found it for an incredible price, only to realize... yeah, no weddings/events to go to...

This is OP - and that's so pretty! Does your taste stay the same for long enough to justify it for a future wedding?

And PP who bought pageant dresses - OMG I love you and I want to see the dress you got. You are taking this to a whole new level and I salute you.

Here, I'm going to show you the dress I am lusting after now. I'm sharing it hoping someone else will buy it since it will almost certainly be just a smidge too small in the ribcage and that will drive me nuts.

Very cute! It might work for me. I'd wear this to a grad party.

This would look absolutely horrible on my mid-50s overweight body. And I want it anyway, lol. So pretty.
