U of St Andrews.
Applications from Americans went through the roof this year…..

High Point is definitely on the rise.

UMD was stuck in the 50s forever. Then they finally broke through all the way to 46. Now they're 44 and nowhere near done, IMO. Applications continue to soar. That's trending up if I've ever seen it.

Now cue the bizarro anti-High Point freaks that can’t stop themselves from adding obnoxious comments. I’ll never understand why ppl have so much hate in their hearts for something that doesn’t pertain to them.

Lots of schools had applications go up.

The Holy Cross love started on this forum like 6 weeks ago.

+1. Someone has a kid who was admitted and has been haunting the college forum 24/7. It’s all Holy Cross, all the time. That happens every year— 1-2 colleges have a new parent cheerleading them for a while. Last year the Wisconsin “Wisco !!!!” poster was all over the place and it seems like a Catholic college? Before that we had “Roll Tide!”

The state flagships do not have more higher achievers than they used to. Parents who got shut out of the top schools say things like that to cope. Also, Ivy haters and conservatives like to make ppl believe that the “high achievers” who get shut out the top schools aren’t losing their spots to higher achievers.

Admissions uncertainty that has long existed, but skyrocketed under test optional policies, has families looking to large publics where stats may play a heavier role than subjective factors like ECs/essays. The problem with this is that ever-increasing apps at certain publics makes admission less certain than it used to be.

With the Pitt example, Pitt has been very attractive in recent years for its rolling admissions, a chance to nail down an acceptance to a decent school early, and with merit. If I recall, Pitt has offered less out of state merit than it used to, simply because it can still attract students without it.

No, but it does have to do with change in the student body, as more and more high achievers get shut out of T20, and/or they can't afford the price tags of such colleges, they end up at the state flagships.

No hate; I know some great kids who go there. But I am discouraged that the university puts its money into a nail salon and first-run movies rather than faculty salaries. I know faculty who have turned down jobs there because of this.

And as someone who is in academia and is also the parent of a college student, it does pertain to me in the sense that HPU is on the leading edge of an unfortunate arms race of non-academic related luxuries that drive tuition up for everyone.

W&M is already highly regarded and competitive, especially from NoVa.

Boston University.

I think BU has great potential and is undervalued.
