UGA or UTK

PP here but this. Hard to comment otherwise. My kid picked a safety in the end so I don’t agree with everyone that it’s “100% UGA” but we need to know more to be helpful.

I have a kid at Tennessee.

You should consider how your kid will get to / from each school for the breaks. Knoxville has some nonstop flights to IAD (United) and DCA (American), but not really all that many on a daily basis. Those flights are either United Express or American Eagle.

I don't know about Athens.

Kids do travel via car, but it is definitely more difficult driving at Thanksgiving. I don't want her driving down I-81 solo (or even carpooling with another college kid).

Also consider how long the breaks are and if that works for you. I think Georgia is typical semester (so they start earlier in January and finish in early May), but Tennessee has a winter mini-term in January so that means they start after MLK day and finals are finishing around May 15. It definitely impacts the amount of time they can actually work over the summer (since the fall semester starts about the 3rd week in August).

Jesus Christ, is your kid an adult or not? If they can't drive by themselves on the interstate at 18-22, when do you expect them to pick up this basic life skill? And I-81 isn't exactly treacherous. The most dangerous part is the Virginia State Police looking to nab anyone for going 5 mph over the limit.

I’ve never been to UGA so I can’t speak to that but we did visit UTK last month and really enjoyed it. It’s a bit smaller, pretty area and the people were so nice. I think my DD will be committing there even though she has a couple Big 10 schools that’s she’s gotten into as well. It just had a nice vibe. Good luck to your daughter! It’s a tough decision and we’re in a similar boat.

What do UGA and UTK students have in common? They got in UTK. Most UGA kids could get in UTK. Not sure if the reverse is true.

My oldest is a junior at UTK. Senior DD with better stats got waitlisted there but accepted RD to UGA. Weird year all the way around.

Weird things happen. Occasionally a kid will be accepted at UVA and WL at VT.
