I went to an Ivy in the 90's and thought I knew the college landscape (remember "insider's guide to colleges"?) and I must admit that this is the first time I've heard of this university!

It’s not the biggest brand in the world but the fact that you’ve not heard of it suggests you don’t read much. First, it’s been on the top 25 of USNWR forever. In 2022 it was 14. Before the methodology change. But at the very least you should be aware of the Medical School which has always been among the most highly regarded in the US. If you’re totally unfamiliar with a top 25 university in America - that’s on you. It’s like saying you’ve never heard of Ecuador. Shows general ignorance of the world in which you live.

Wow. Surprised about all the high stats rejections and wait lists.

Do you think this is a yield protection situation? Where they want you to push hard on continued interest so they know you won't turn them down? (Did you all visit or otherwise demonstrate a bunch of interest prior to applying?)

Also, glad to hear of an alum's kid who got in RD. We keep hearing legacies of various schools need to apply ED - otherwise the schools will reject RD because they know they weren't first choice (even though you had plenty of info about the school via parents.)

Kids with Ivy level stats apply RD. The ED kids, especially from private schools, are well below.

Well below? The school’s SAT range is 1500-1570. Sort of mathematically impossible that the ED applicants are well below given that 60 pct of the class is ED.

Not yield protection because top stats kids are being admitted. It's just that competition is tough and they cannot accept all of the highly deserving top stats kids. It's a sad fact, which is also true for other top schools.

It’s a great school with a huge endowment (bigger than Duke) and amazing campus. On paper it’s hard to differentiate versus an Ivy League school but of course it doesn’t have the historical brand prestige. But there are many more super qualified kids out there than Ivies can accommodate - so schools like WashU get them too - and like Ivies, WashU also has to reject many very top applicants. 9 pct RD acceptance rate is what it is.

great schools and its very hard to get in. They get a lot of mid west students to apply. It helps to do ED, like northwestern where they have a better acceptance rate then RD.

Especially if it’s a DD

College is about jobs if you think there will be any in MO much less them coming back here with a degree from Wash U lol 😂

Also MO is a state that will 100 percent require no interstate travel for women of child bearing years. They already have legislation ready to go.

Please seek help.

WashU is known for yield protection. Just search Reddit about it.

The test score profile and pct test optional are comparable to Ivies - so “well below” doesn’t make sense esp when they tend to take more kids ED

Bottom line is - if you’re not an athlete or otherwise hooked - you can’t get in without top academic stats, ED or otherwise. And frankly it’s hard to get in even with top academic stats, esp RD where they are overwhelmed with applications

Posted above about DD WL with 4.0/4.7/1530. she didn't demonstrate interest other than attending AO visit at her school and sending them a TY note. she did send optional video (glimpse) but didn't interview. was there an option to sign up for interview or was this by invite only? maybe she missed that opportunity to show interest there.

Lol. UChicago is the school known for yield protection.

It's my understanding that they do not track demonstrated interest at WashU. My daughter did sign up for a "Chat with a Bear" when we went to visit the campus and took the tour. It was supposedly non-evaluative. I don't believe your DD missed out any formal interview. We are thrilled that our DD was admitted ED2, but know that it was a lottery situation with such a low acceptance rate. Like others who have been admitted, she had super high stats, reported her SAT scores, and had exceptional ECs - but still knew it wasn't a guarantee!

Congrats to all who were admitted!!

It would be a violation of the constitution to restrict interstate travel for women of child bearing age. Please stay in reality.
