| I'd look at individual menus and reviews as it can vary quite a bit. Some places are better than others. Generally, I do think it's a little overpriced and a bit too dessert heavy but factoring in the experience it's sort of a fun special thing. It's more something to take someone to. |
| I think so yes if especially there's live music and really good food. |
Very true! |
Thank you. |
Nobody cares. |
I care — this person posts everytkme the question is asked and it was helpful education for me as an American to have the right terminology when I went to London! Why so averse to learning something new? I would say that $100 is ridiculously overpriced for what you get. But sometimes you just suck it up and do something overpriced, like lighting money on fire, because it is special and maybe you will remember it more than two different meals at nice ordinary restaurants? For the British person that said 2-25, I am surprised because we really shopped around in London and didn’t really see much below $60 unless you were talking just tea and scone and a little cake. I think the place we went was $60 and it was llovely with three different savory appetizers, three little desserts, scones and tea, all very tasty (the best being a chicken curry mini pie). |

Yes, it’s expensive if you just look at the food you get, I suppose. But it is basically a full meal. We always go to afternoon tea (yes—it’s afternoon tea, not high tea; high tea is basically a very casual and early dinner) at the Willard at Christmas and I never finish it all. And it is a lovely experience.
I think it is very much worth it if you are attracted to the idea of it. |
| We used to go to tea at the Willard before Christmas. It was a fun, festive thing to do but it comes out to be about $100 per person, even for 7 year olds so our bill would be nearly $500 for 4 people, including tip. It's nice but isn't really worth it. |
This is why the rest of the world hates Americans. Because so many of us are ignorant fools. I care. |
| Americans think "high" means fancy. It's not, it just refers to the time of day, you idiots. |
Thank you! Yes, we love afternoon tea. 🫖 |

Great work DCUM, putting OP in her place for using the commonly but not technically correct term here!
I hope she'll go sit in the basement for the rest of the day and think about what she's done. |
| Aside: any “reasonable” afternoon tea venues to host a shower for about 20? |
Thank you. We’re the friends who will discretely tell you about the spinach in your teeth too. |
I love afternoon tea at a fancy hotel. I only do it every couple of years. But it is a great treat. I would not do one of those buses (unless it was like a shower or I was going with a large group). |
