Is high tea worth it?

I’m sure someone will say “if you have to ask…”

I just saw on WTOP area cherry blossom teas running for $90-$100 a person. Anyone been?

I think it's a nice thing to do with grandparents. If you would spend that to take them to brunch, think of it that way. It's not "worth it" in terms of the food.

Yes, I make it for myself every year on my birthday. Not paying ridiculous prices for someone else to make it.

My British dh would tell you that you are confused. High tea is a worker's meal, what builders and labourers eat in the late afternoon after long hours of manual work. It is not posh or fancy. It is not a birthday treat. It is stained mugs of basic workers tea and maybe a sandwich or something at home.

What you actual mean is afternoon tea.

Just go gag yourself with a teaspoon. It doesn’t take all that.

Sure, it's something to take out of town guests to do.

Haven't done that one but it's usually a nice setting with tea and sandwiches and cakes. Can't you just google high tea and see if it suits your taste? That's a lot of money for it but it's the experience more than the amount.

A nice thing to do with 7-12 year olds, their mom and grandma

It’s it worth it, No!

$100 for a pot or 2 of tea and some tiny sandwiches and sweets.

Is it fancy and fun, Yes! Look for some in the $60 range.

Two people for $200, not worth it. I’d rather spend that elsewhere.

To me, it's all about context. In the right place, like the Savoy, afternoon or high tea can be a nice treat. High tea differs from afternoon tea in that is has a savoury course served between the sandwiches and cakes and pastries.

$90 no it’s not worth it.

Tea, scones with cream and jam, a couple of cakes and sandwiches…… the absolute max I would pay would be $50 and only if in a very nice location. Your average tea shop this would be $20-$25.

You're talking about afternoon tea, not high tea. And I mean, it's fun to do something fancy, but definitely not $90 worth of food and tea if that's what you mean.

I love it and unfortunately or fortunately so does my kid. It’s become a once a year tradition and it’s well worth it.

I wouldn’t hesitate if I need “girly” programming but if the expense is significant, you can definitely get the vibes going for way less.
