Want to support Canada. Where are some of your favorite places to visit there?

Mt. Tremblant is great for skiing. We did a driving tour up in Nova Scotia - up to Cape Breton - it was good but not great. However, really loved the Bay of Fundy and Halifax. You can make a nice trip with a stop in Acadia too if our National Parks keep operating.

Also, if you are a camping family - their provincial parks (like our state parks) are very nicely setup with dish washing stations! National parks are great too.

I like Montreal but don't love it. It's nice but nothing amazing. Husband loves it.

I have always wanted to go to Prince Edward Island - Anne of Green Gables fan - they have a relatively new island trail which is on my list. https://theislandwalk.ca/

We have also gone to Banff & Jasper which are beautiful but not sure how Jasper is after the fires.

Vancouver - I'm very meh on. Loved Victoria Island.

We enjoyed our week in Nova Scotia. Beyond Halifax, we focused on scenery and historic places. We liked the Scottish and French vibes.

It is. But it’s far from the east coast.

Vancouver island. Capital city Victoria.

NP here. Other than the fancy gardens, what are some fun things to do on Vancouver Island?

I’m a western Canadian, I love Banff, jasper, tofino and Victoria.

Thanks for your support! Your money will go pretty far with our crappy dollar, enjoy!

OP: Thanks! I'm angry at our government and cannot believe how they are treating Canadians our closest allies who literally just sent firefighters to help us in LA 2 months ago. I'm sorry, Canada!

I’m the Canadian pp from pg 1, Vancouver island is one of my most favourite places in the world. Land in Victoria, explore if you like, grab a rental car and get on the move. There are tons of tiny cute islands all around - salt springs is probably the most popular near Victoria. Head north along the coast, spectacular drive.

When you hut Parksville you can continue north or head west. Fanny bay is a tiny bit north, home to some of the best oysters. Continuing north you can courtenay and Campbell river, beautiful small towns full of nature and beauty. You can see grizzlies, black bears, killer whales, grey whales, humpback whales, otters, sea lions, elk, deer.

If you head west, you will drive through Coombs, a little market town famous for having goats on the roof. You’ll pass cathedral grove, similar to cali redwoods, some of the largest trees (Douglas firs). Continue on and you’ll hit a T at the coast; north goes to Tofino south to ucluelet. Tofino is one of the most popular areas in the island, great beaches, surfing, nature, wildlife. Ukee is a sleepy version of Tofino, home to one of the best restaurants in Canada/the world, pluvio.

There are hundreds (thousands?!) of gorgeous hiking trails, anywhere from 5mins to multi-day trails like the west coast trail (people flock from around the world to do this hike, not my thing but apparently amazing). 25% of the worlds temperate rain forests are on van island.

Tons of great natural beauty. There are wineries, cideries, cheese makers, orchards, they even grow walnuts and hazelnuts. Amazing produce. I grew up going camping on the island and absolutely love it. I took my husband there during Covid and he was in awe! I’d highly highly recommend.

Ottawa is surprisingly interesting. Good museums.

I went to Halifax and Nova Scotia as a teenager and I remember it being a fun trip. Lots of driving, though.

PEI if you were ever a fan of Anne of Green Gables.

Is it possible to visit Quebec City and Ottawa in 7 days? On the map they look far to drive from each other, or is it best to ditch the car in one city and take the train to the other? Which one is more walkable and won't need a car? Thanks

They are a 5hr drive apart. Which is not much for Canada lol. Montreal is in the middle. You can def hit Ottawa/montreal/Quebec City in 7 days, though it wouldn’t leave a ton of time for exploring. But totally doable.

We took the train from Ottawa to Montreal, and then Montreal to Quebec City. Worked out well. I think our trip was 12 days, so a few days in each city. We were pretty tired by the end, though.

I love the Quebec City area. The town is so charming and fun to walk around in, full of history, and the surrounding countryside just beautiful. Really want to go to BC next time. That description of Vancouver Island upthread is dreamy!

Cabot trail is my favorite! PEI is a great add-on. Or fly into Victoria and out of Kelowna or Calgary.

I love Montreal. Can also go to Mont Tremblant or Jacques Cartier National Park.

Someone here posted an itinerary awhile ago where you go on a road trip from Quebec City up through Charlevoix along the St Lawrence River. I have not done that myself but am hoping (if we still keep our jobs, that is) to do a similar trip this year or next.

Banff is amazing, but gets insanely crowded. Jasper is a big less packed with tourists. BC near Vancouver and Vancouver Island is an incredible area, but, obviously, not driving distance

Quebec in the fall is amazing!

We did Banff and Lake Louise around Christmas time. It was honestly magical. Looking forward to getting back to Lake Louise in warmer weather.

We love Quebec City, La Malbaie, and Tadoussac. We drove up there last summer and spent two weeks there (one week in Quebec City), 2 nights in La Malbaie, and 4 nights in Tadoussac. Loved every minute of it.
