You obviously do not know what you are talking about. On average it provides $2,400 per student and most of the special programs. |
Shut your mouth MAGA. Teachers are hard working, empathetic, compassionate humans who show your children they care every day. You are probably a nasty lazy stay at home mom who is miserable with life. Just shut it-teachers barely have time to use the restroom never mind indoctrinating your children moron. Get help. |
All I know is I am one of the parents who had major issues with FCPS during COVID and ended up putting my kid in private school. I still work in public school only because the pay is better. I care about the students, so spare me the lecture. The waste in public school spending is terrible and many kids are not getting the services they need and deserve. There are a lot of phenomenal teachers who would do anything for the kids but there are too few of us, too little time and the work load is too great. I’m all for school choice now. |
DOE does distribute money to states for education, much of which goes to things like programs for disabled students and subsidized lunches for low income students. Most private schools won't take students with severe disabilities, so even if their parents could afford a private, they would have no options of the public schools couldn't take them. This is a cruel FU to poor and disabled American children and their caregivers. |
The reddest states get the most federal funding from Dept. of Education.

As with many things, this is going to hurt poor rural and inner city areas and not have much effect on wealthy suburban counties.
Also, Special Education and IDEA have lost the plot. It needs to be majorly reined in and we need to reestablish schools for students who simply can't behave in a normal school environment. No more evacuating Gen Ed classrooms for tantrumming students. |
I'm a teacher. That's not happening anywhere. Stop using Fox News talking points. |
Think about it differently. States have to balance budgets generally. Thus, they spend on things (like education) from funds raised from taxes. The federal government does not balance a budget. So it can borrow and then send money to the states so they can spend that on things like education. If the federal budget cuts spending on education, there is nothing to return to the states, since the money was borrowed. The federal government could send money as block grants for items it really wants. I expect this. We will see funding tied to specific policies they want implemented. |
first place
Dept of Education created .. spend most money Last place |
If you’re saying the US was once first place in education, that’s nonsense. It’s never even been close. |
School didn’t used to graduate illiterates |
Previously, students with special needs often dropped out after failing one or two grades. Those with very significant special needs and/or very low cognitive functioning often remained at home or i group homes and institutions. |
DOE provides 12% of Virginia k-12 school budget, 11% of Maryland. Look for cuts. |
I do not see Trump giving back the saving from eliminating the DoE. Block grants will be either greatly reduced like 25% of what the state received or eliminated completely. |
Thank you for your post based on your extensive experience. Apparently we have ZERO EVIDENCE that the Dept of Education has ever improved the outcome of our students. This has been ANOTHER total WASTE of taxpayer dollars. TRAGIC. |
