My husband only buys store brand food and I may need to weep

So buy your own cereal and ice cream.

Total Home (cvs) is only store brand I really don’t like. Everything I’ve tried is crap.

You folks need to spend more time on spicy boards like Datalounge, where this kind of chatter is greeted with wit and hilarity, not earnest admonishment! I am not really "enraged," but it is annoying.

Who said I eat so much processed food? I was using those purchases to illustrate a point, not listing my entire weekly dietary plan. Do you not eat ice cream?

Have similar issues in my family lol, though not about the store brand food. I figured this out. I eat my own premium brands stuff, and he eats what he buys. For instance, he eats the big bag of Costco holiday chocolates, and I eat my small pack of artisan chocolates. It’s a little annoying, but I guess it’s best not to force each other. Nothing money cannot solve.

My husband used to buy generic or store brand versions of the food I ate and name brand for the ones he liked. That was infuriating. Yes, some store brand stuff is just as good, but other is not and the price is not always that different.

I do not eat ice cream from a store, you are correct. I make it (on occasion) with organic grass-fed cream and whole milk from local cows, organic sugar, and organic vanilla, and a little Maldon salt. That's it.

Try a Kroger when you travel. Kroger's Simple Truth and Private Selection house brands are very competitive with big food company brands. Trader Joe's level of success.

Now THIS is mean and worth posting about.

That seems time-consuming.

It probably tastes so "bland" to you because you are used to processed food.

Just go buy the food you prefer. Toss anything after it expired.

I think it's funny the way men sometimes will try to save money and get the most low quality stuff as a result.

With that said, not all men do this. My man is amazing at remembering the brands I like and getting them, even if he does tease me when theyre a lot more expensive. He buys organic because it's important to me and notes my preferences. Dont let their feigned incompetence convince you that men arent capable of this kind of thing

store brand is fine for many things, but not a few like pasta sauce, mayonnaise, coffee, tea, soups.

My DH turned me onto a lot of store brands and I've discovered plenty of them are perfectly good. Especially at Whole Foods and TJs (where almost everything is store brand). Also the Kirkland stuff from Costco, though a lot of that is repackaged from major vendors. You have to be able to read quality, and sometimes you try something and it's not great and you move on.

I'm a naturally very frugal person but like quality, so this has been a great development.

If DH was buying a food product I didn't enjoy, I'd just let him know it wasn't for me and to only buy enough for himself or, if it was something intended to be shared, to please buy a brand we both like.
