69 Million Married Women who changed their names may lose the right to vote under the SAVE act

Anonymous
There is a huge amount of misinformation in this thread. Real ID drivers license is not sufficient. States don’t have to accept BC + MC and can impose additional vague limits. This will end mail in voting and registration and will require a passport to vote. Only half of Americans have a passport.

Repeal of the 19th amendment is part of P2025. This is a step in that direction. Please read the below links for more details. If you think women have the right to vote, you should oppose this strenuously.

I encourage you to read the bill itself.

The chorus of people saying "chicken little" is a bit suspect. Lots of psyops on these pages.

In 2020, my 78 year old mom, who had a Real ID in a different state, brought her paperwork into the VA DMV to get her Virginia license. First they told her she needed to bring her marriage license, which she did. Then they told her birth certificate was “invalid” so we had to request a new birth certificate which also wasn’t “valid” per the requirements. It took weeks to sort out. It seems easy until it isn’t.

Hopefully it’s the dumb trump half that don’t have passports. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

The act, reintroduced by Texas Republican Representative Chip Roy, is intended to amend the National Voter Registration Act to ensure that all people registering to vote are U.S. citizens. It would require people to present in-person documentation as proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

Much of the documentation listed under the SAVE Act is based on having a birth certificate that matches the person registering to vote. However, as many as 69 million married women in the United States have changed their legal name since getting married, meaning their name does not match their birth certificate, per the Center for American Progress.

Project 25 continues to try to push womens rights back. Pay attention ladies.

White woman? Trad wives? Who changes their names when they get married? Not me. Not my DD.

Oops Usha Vance, Melania Trump, Ivanka Kushner... won't be able to vote.

So Melania cannot vote?

I encourage you to read the bill itself.

I have.

The two articles above quote the bill directly and break down the effects. The regime frequently uses poorly written bills and EOs to help camouflage what they are doing. Providing clear, understandable analysis helps people understand these destructive bills.

Sounds like OP is overreacting.

I'll have to travel back in time 25 years, then. I chose to change my name to my dhs because I no longer wanted to be known by my father's name. My life and public identity is Larla DHname.

I agree. I got divorced and went back to my maiden name and 5 years later it's a problem. I wish I had never changed it.

I read the articles and the bill. Not concerned. The analysis was not persuasive. So the bill didn’t contemplate every permutation. That’s basically every bill written. That’s what regulations are for. Women will not be disenfranchised. That’s a ridiculous assertion on its face.

oh sure... totally makes sense for WOMEN to bring MORE documentation as extra proof to vote. Make it harder is the plan but sure continue to downplay it by saying "just bring..."

I am a woman who has changed her name twice. This isn’t meant to be punitive to women, but to verify legal name and citizenship.

Same thing will be required by a man that changed his name.

You have drunk the Kool-Aid. Maybe it's not "meant" to be punitive to women, but the only group of people that traditionally do not change their names are men.

LOL. They were fools to change their names and probably don't care in the first place sooo.
