69 Million Married Women who changed their names may lose the right to vote under the SAVE act

Anonymous
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act could prevent many married women from being able to register to vote.

The act, reintroduced by Texas Republican Representative Chip Roy, is intended to amend the National Voter Registration Act to ensure that all people registering to vote are U.S. citizens. It would require people to present in-person documentation as proof of citizenship when registering to vote.

Much of the documentation listed under the SAVE Act is based on having a birth certificate that matches the person registering to vote. However, as many as 69 million married women in the United States have changed their legal name since getting married, meaning their name does not match their birth certificate, per the Center for American Progress.

Project 25 continues to try to push womens rights back. Pay attention ladies.

They can just bring their marriage license or court-ordered name change along with the birth certificate. A passport would also work if one has one.

Come on. You need to learn to separate the actual threats from the bogus ones. This is a bogus threat.

"Eligible documents include a REAL ID-compliant identification indicating U.S. citizenship; a valid U.S. passport, military ID and service record; a government-issued photo ID showing U.S. birthplace; or a government-issued photo ID that does not indicate birthplace or citizenship and a valid secondary document."

OP...You show a lack of critical thinking here...also a lack of basic research or even a google search looking up the act...and a lack of general knowledge.

oh sure... totally makes sense for WOMEN to bring MORE documentation as extra proof to vote. Make it harder is the plan but sure continue to downplay it by saying "just bring..."

You really need to have one of those eligible documents to function in the US. I think women can manage this fine.

Just bring your Real ID. That’s it. Same as everyone else.

Stop fear mongering. People legally change names all the time. As long as there is a legal record of the name change, it is NBD.

And guess what? US citizens are not always born in the US. There are procedures for that as well.

And I am 100% ok with requiring only citizens being able to vote in our elections.

Bring it.

Gee, I wonder how in the hell I got my Real ID when my birth name didn't match my current name.

I am a woman who has changed her name twice. This isn’t meant to be punitive to women, but to verify legal name and citizenship.

Same thing will be required by a man that changed his name.

If 69 million women can't figure out what ID is or what to bring when there is a list of items that are eligible, they probably shouldn't be voting anyways.

Or, we should stop changing our names when we get married and not worry about it.

Why not just a Driver's License or Passport, like TSA?

OP, where do you live?

If in Maryland, it's your driver's license.
Maryland began issuing Real ID driver's licenses and identification cards in 2009, and has been Real ID compliant since 2011.

Enough with the Chicken Little sky is falling routine.
