Look up the top 20 threads with the most comments here on DCUM. How many of them are about a woman?

How many threads in entertainment have to be closed down due to rampant sexism that goes on for sometimes hundreds of pages before its locked.

It is my perception that 90% or so of the participants in the entertainment forum are women. Do you agree with that assessment?

I think we should give Jeff a bit of a break because the world is kind Having a Moment right now and he may not really be able to give this full consideration tbh. That was kind of the point of closing the thread I think. But maybe it's an issue to consider for Future Times when everything isn't on fire in a dumpster, imho.

Thank you for your service, PP and also Jeff.

Kate Middleton, Megan Markle, Angelina Jolie, Hilaria, Danni Starr back in the Kane Show drama, etc etc. This happens over and over and over and over again.

I understand the entertainment forum is fluff that you aren't generally interested in, but trolls take advantage of that to post absolutely obscene content there. I don't know what the solution is but I might suggest that any thread that is about a woman gets a limit on pages.

I spent time arguing on that stupid thread today because I am a woman and directly effected by all this hateful sh*t going on in the world and just literally could not stand by and watch someone spew sexist s**t into the air without being called out AGAIN. I feel like a blanket policy would help but this happens over and over and over and over again and it's effed up. I know its not your fault, but I just feel like you should have some kind of policy about it because it happens a LOT.

This issue is her and not the threads. This is ridiculous. Once you let her close down one thread, she is just going to keep going with others in that forum.

The thread was closed because the same poster spams him with post reports and then comes here to demand the thread be closed. She has done it multiple times with the Blake Lively threads and likely will continue to do so on other threads. The problem is that person and no the threads.

Jeff I have respected you and appreciated your evenhandedness for the almost decade I have been on this site. But are you implying that women cannot be sexist towards women? Because I thought better of you than that.

Just standing up for the PP you are insulting, MANY DIFFERENT PEOPLE in the thread asked folks to stay on topic and not reflexively insult the people involved or the people posting, which only seemed to make certain posters do it more. This is why we can't have nice things. Why did you all double down like that, except to be hateful? The thread closing is your own fault because you can't behave like normal human beings who don't say whatever crazy, sexist thing first comes into their heads. You. The blame lies with you.

His point is that women care about female celebrities, so of course that will be the subject of most threads. Do you think any of us here have that much to say about Austin Butler or Anthony Mackie? lol

Hundreds of pages of sexist drivel shouldn’t be allowed to happen over and over and over again IMO. He would never allow it for other marginalized groups, I admire how often and thoroughly he shuts down racist/anti lgbt threads.

I was asking the previous poster whether or not she agreed with my perception. I was not implying anything.

I am the previous poster. That was my response. Yes I agree most posters are female. I’m not sure why that fact would make it ok that this happens over and over again.

Yea, I was one of them, but certain posters kept bringing the thread away from the legal arguments and instead scream about misogyny which really has zero to do with the legal cases some of us were trying to discuss. Nevertheless, there is clearly one poster who is reporting tons of posts, most for no reason other than she disagrees with them, and keeps coming to this subforum asking Jeff to close the thread rather than just exiting it if she can’t handle it. I assume that Jeff knows whether or not this is the same person.

It is frequently accepted, though I can't say that I entirely accept it, that members of a group being marginalized are better able to detect prejudice than those who are not members of the group. So, for instance, a Jewish person might detect antisemitism where I might not. In the case of these celebrity threads that almost always, in my opinion, turn sexist, half or more of the participants are members of the presumptively marginalized group. So there are posters like you saying that the thread is sexist and I should do something about it and there are other women saying that the thread is not sexist and I should stay out of it. I normally might concede to members of the marginalized group, but in this case that's impossible. So what am i supposed to do?

IMHO the problem with the thread is not the person reporting the ridiculous, sexist comments but the ridiculous, sexist comments themselves, which many people repeatedly asked folks to stop posting, and yet people/person did not. jmho

Isn’t it always better to go with free speech? Clearly most posters were just fine with this thread, which was about a series of lawsuits. Ironically it was the people now saying it was sexist that kept dragging it off track. In any case, if they find it too triggering, they can ignore it. Let the rest of us continue to have a spot to discuss the ongoing litigation.
