You get off the cruise ship and it feels like you are in an American strip mall except that there are more mexican people holding signs up selling excursions. I think there’s a Starbucks and a hooters, etc. if you booked through the ship they will take you directly from a meeting place on the ship to the bus. It’s probably a 10-20 minute drive to the dock and then they’ll put you on a boat. It’s about as low risk as you can imagine. I agree other places in Mexico might be a little more problematic. There’s a lot of border towns with factories that basically only make things for export to the U.S. like dishwashers. Places like that might have layoffs and there might be a fair amount of anger. Same might be true on some agricultural areas. |
I don't fear the Mexican people. They know what a loon Trump is and I don't think they're blaming all Americans for our bad government. I would fear that Trump would do something crazy like suspend flights from Mexico and then you'll have to hoof it across the border. |
San Miguel? Really? It’s incredibly safe. Full of friendly Mexicans and returned Americans. |
But they haven’t made it back yet. I would not travel there, you may not be able to get back in. |
how deep in have you been? It gets a little shady when you get far away from the square and it thins out. I have a favorite local taco joint out there. But the cruisers aren’t going there at night! |
I’m headed to Mexico City for a week on Wednesday. Mostly I just plan to be polite and low key, and avoid situations that might escalate (ie rowdy bars) |
