traveling to Mexico

given tariffs, and various TikTok threats (Mexicans pissed at Americans and will spit in your food while on vacation etc), should people travel to Mexico right now?

What are you talking about?

I haven’t been willing to go to Mexico for about 5 years. So, no, I still wouldn’t go. I found the people of Mexico to be lovely and they were happy to have American business at the resorts and restaurants. It’s the drug cartels who randomly shoot up beaches I worry about.

This. It's too difficult to parse out the decent people from the corrupt government and criminals in that country.

I have the same question—taking a cruise and one of the stops is Cozumel, Mexico. I have an excursion booked so it’s likely low risk but I have small children and am considering staying on the ship. (I won’t cancel with the company so that they will still receive our payment.)

I have relatives in Mexico having a wonderful time right now. It’s fine.

There’s TikTok’s of all RFI art Mexicans talking about taking retribution on American tourists.

I went last week to Mexico City. Had a great time.

You are insane.

I feel like you can find anything on TikTok. I’m sure there are Mexicans that hate Americans just like there are Americans that hate Mexicans.
My rule for Mexico is generally stay in nice hotels. I would get something like an air b n b in Mexico because I realize I don’t know enough about what cartels operate where etc. I also sadly would not go to small towns in Mexico for the same reason. It’s sad (for lots of reasons, mostly for the Mexicans)—I would love to do a tour of the internal colonial towns. I travell d to a couple of them in tje 90s and loved it and always meant to go back and see more but life got in the way.

PP a lot has changed last week vs. this week and will only get worse. Anyone with helpful advice?

What excursion? Cozumel is very cloistered for Americans. Chakanaab is a nice excursion with small kids.

It’s one of those glass bottom boats, we’d be bussed out there so I’m thinking very low risk but I haven’t been to Cozumel before.

I’ve been to Cozumel four times. The only thing I wouldn’t do is walk through the more inland parts of San Miguel at night. It’s fine.
