| I work at the med school. I hate the urban campus. |
They actually have great merit |
Au has no money for merit anymore. GWU is cheap with merit |

My son is a sophomore at the Elliott School of International Affairs and loves it. GW is known for its IA offerings, and is ranked 6th in that general category in US News (I know, we all hate that algorithm). Georgetown School of Foreign Service, Columbia, and a few others are ranked above GW Elliott. DS was rejected from Georgetown, which was his first choice, and gladly took GW's merit aid offer of 20K discount off the 85K sticker price, guaranteed for 5 years. Since he's specifically interested in International Affairs, he turned down UMD Honors (in-state), W&M Dual Degree Programme with St Andrews (85K), and a few others, the International Affairs offerings of which were less flexible and/or interesting to him. |
^ and he loves the urban campus! He's not a suburban or country boy

I went there in the 1990s and loved the urban campus (back in the Tower Records days). Walking distance to lots of exciting things - including bars when you're old enough. Metro lots of other places. I lost a ton of weight walking everywhere, definitely good for me. |
Elliot School is excellent. For IR majors, there are very few programs that are better than GW, particularly with all the opportunities that being in DC provides. |
| GW is a great school for kids whose parents can afford it. If you are worried about the cost it isn’t for you. |
My point was, it was ridiculous advice. Obviously anyone would choose Georgetown over GW. The problem is Georgetown is very hard to get into, whereas GW is not. Your advice is comparable to... choose Harvard over BU. Yeah, no s*** sherlock. |
| It's expensive. Decent school, kind of urban. Proximity to the whole DC area and things to do. Things like vibe or school pride maybe not akin to Georgetown, if comparing. |
DP important to remember that GWU is not the only other choice than Georgetown, not even for IR. Go somewhere with better bang for the buck. |
| Good school especially in areas like IR, Political Science and Business. Doesn’t get the respect it deserves. |
| Anyone have insight about the computer science or computer engineering majors at GW? (Student would qualify for tuition remission.) |
+1. I also had amazing jobs and internships because it was easy to walk or metro to downtown DC offices. Was friends with kids at Georgetown and AU but they didn't like leaving campus. GW is for kids who are comfortable being integrated into city life. |
This is me too. Was there from 1996-2000 on an almost full ride. As a politics obsessed kid from a small midwestern city - GW and its urban campus was a dream. |
