OTOH you are already a good weight and probably shouldn't even be worrying about this. Take your time, lose a pound every two weeks or so and forget about it.

This. It's ok to be hungry. It's normal. I don't snack 99.9% of the time. I eat 3 meals a day and nothing in between. Sure, some days I may be a bit hungry between meals but that's normal. I just deal with it until the next meal. I'm not going to starve. I don't count calories and eat a normal if not more than normal amount each meal. I've been the same weight give or take a few pounds for 25+years. Hunger is normal sometimes.

I don’t believe everyone feels hunger the same. My DH is perpetually thin and when he doesn’t eat and he gets hangry, but he some how doesn’t complain about being hungry. It’s like he doesn’t feel hunger in his stomach. I will ask him when he last ate when he is hangry. Usually he has forgotten to eat a meal.

+1
My DH is also naturally slim. He often comes home and says he forgot to eat lunch, or will say he's gotten to dinner time and realized he hadn't eaten a thing all day. I have never in my life "forgotten" to eat lunch. I've never unintentionally gone day without eating. My intense hunger spurs me to action on the regular.

My husband is like this, but is quite overweight. I need to eat every couple of hours or I literally cannot concentrate on work or other tasks I need to do.

I weigh <120 at 5'4 despite eating all the meals and many snacks and he is about 230 at 5'8 and even Ozempic is barely effective. He probably DOES need to eat under 1200 calories to lose weight, but I certainly don't. His mom and sister are heavier than I am and can get by on one toddler sized meal per day so I'm guessing there is a large genetic component.

What are you eating?

Also, is 1200 calories enough? I get that it's low, but if you're eating 1800, you could go to 1450 or something and still lose weight.

Anyway my tips are,
- Try intermittent fasting (I only drink coffee before lunch many days and listen to my body...if I'm hungry, I eat breakfast. Most days I a not hungry). This combined with a good dinner finished before 8 means I don't really want anything more than decaf tea or possible 100 calories of chocolate after 8pm.
- Try a big salad or cup of veggie soup with each meal. Some people like before, I prefer with. I make green salads with all the veggies I like: lettuce, cucumber, peppers, tomato, pickled onion, pickled carrot, beets, hearts of palm, whatever. I make my own dressing which is maple syrup, dijon, red wine vinegar, spices, and a very small amount of olive oil. VERY small. Like 1/9th of the jar. You can use a lot of dressing and if your salad is truly just veggies your total calories for a huge bowl is 100 or less.
- Snack on things like cottage cheese or veggies. Things that you can't overdo. Almonds are healthy, but 40 almonds would be a lot of calories. Same for crackers. For this to work your meals need to be substantial. I find that with intermittent fasting, salads to keep you full at meals, and whole foods you can eat a lot of good food at meals and not even want to snack.
- Don't forget protein.
- When you're mindful you can absolutely have an onion ring or ice cream sometimes.
- Try not to drink calories.

I am back to intense cardio and weight lifting on a regular basis and I am starving these days… I just bought a whole bunch of snacks for my office such as beef jerky, cans of tuna/mackerel, walnuts, seaweed snacks, and some gummy bears for a treat once a while. I am listening to my body versus starving myself on 1,200 calories/day.

I am not huge and have a dense/muscular body so my weight has always been on the higher end for my size, even when I wore a 0/2, but I really do need to buckle down and lose 10 lbs that are the result of travel, holidays, wine, and cheese. I do normally eat very healthily, but I do also have a huge appetite (always have), and trying to stick to 1200 to shake this extra fluff is killing me!

My BMI is 24 so I don't think I'd qualify for any weight loss meds, but I seriously am starving - and very grumpy as a result. I am drinking tons of water, but any other tricks to defeat or distract from hunger?

Add a low-calorie, high protein snack.

I read this article and am going to start taking psyllium in some form and hoping it'll cut some hunger (gift link)

Try weight watchers.

Your body is literally screaming at you. It's telling you that you aren't giving it the right foods.

The only time I ever "forgot" to eat was when I was under some extreme emotional distress. Otherwise I cannot relate at all to anyone forgetting to eat! My DH doesn't forget; he chooses to wait until he's starving and then ends up grabbing a bag of chips instead of cooking because he's too hungry to wait. It's infuriating.

Well 1200 calories is ridiculous first of all. But what are you eating? You need to be eating lots and lots of low cal high protein food to keep you full. You have absolutely no calories to waste on fats and high calorie carbs. Foods: non fat greek yogurt, 93% ground turkey and beef, wild salmon, boneless skinless chicken, oatmeal, potatoes, veggies. These will keep you full for minimal calories. But seriously up your calories to about 1500.

This and try to eat some berries with the nonfat greek yogurt. With 1200 calorie daily diet I wouldn't eat salmon. Would try to eat 96% ground beef, ground sirloin steak and skinless chicken breast. Absolutely no nuts or processed foods.

For exercise, don't run just walk running may trigger hunger.

This is the worst thing you can do. Low fat and fat free foods are setting your body up for failure.

You're not going to lose weight just by walking. Hunger is normal. It doesn't mean you need to eat at the first twinge of hunger.

+1. I actually do OK on 1200 because I’ve never been a breakfast eater, but I find fats to be very satiating. I pretty frequently eat 2% Greek yogurt for lunch (the 100 calorie Fage cup) and salmon and veggies for dinner.

Yes you can lose weight at 1200 calories by walking. Unless you weigh 100lbs. Hunger isn’t normal unless you eat processed foods. If you want to feel full you need to eat more protein and fruit.
