Were Attendance Levels Status Quo Today?

Glad your streets were plowed and you have flexibility at work or SAH to be able to take your kids to school on a weird last minute schedule. Ours are icy hills with piles of snow/ice and not passable by school buses. And I don't get paid time off or able to reschedule work meetings based on a last minute whim to reopen the schools on a Friday for a short day.

You have to make the decisions best for your family, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world stops until you're ready. The beat goes on.

24/30 2nd period
15/20 3rd period
28/30 8th period

My 2nd and 3rd periods usually have perfect attendance. 8th period usually has more out!

We just got back from MS. My kid said it looked like any other day. There was new material in every class, and a test coming up on Tuesday.

You are being smug.
I am hardly an outlier in this. I wouldn't be posting if this was a one-off type of thing that happens when kids get sick, travel, etc. This is a problem affecting many people today, and some schools are affected more than others depending if they are in the plowed/unplowed areas and/or serve majority of plowed/unplowed neighborhoods. I am glad "the beat goes on" for you in whatever race you are running that you think is going to get you further than those who had to skip one half school day
So far you are succeeding in your smugness

We're supposed to care about your work schedule today?

This thread has an inherent data collection flaw. You will only see reports of those with kids who attended school today, those who had to stay home wouldn't know. It also will vary by school. Some schools will have full attendance while others hardly so. Also depends on the attitude of teachers who post as is evident from the previous locked thread. Some teachers would want to take it easy today while others would want to stick it to the kids who missed school today while they had to show up for work. I bet for every kid there will be teachers who would do nothing and those who would start new material and slap new tests on Monday.

7th grader at RCMS said his classes were full. They learned “stuff” today. It sounded like his Teachers covered new material in class, once we got specifics on the “stuff” they learned.

You should probably log off DCUM since you are so busy with your job that doesn't off paid time off or the ability to reschedule anything. That must be hard to balance with all your anonymous posting.

Nothing at all was last minute. We learned about the 2-hour delay yesterday afternoon.

DP. What last minute change? It's not like they announced a two hour delay this morning. The message from Reid was clear to make whatever decision worked best for your family and school can't stay closed for a dwindling minority of students impacted. Don't send your kids if it isn't safe, but at my house, the roads have been completely clear since Tuesday. We've been to sports practices, doctor appointments, the office, grocery stores, etc. My DCs shouldn't stay home another day.

+1,000 Reid and the rest of the screaming parents clambering for schools to open are tone deaf

Not tone deaf but thinking that there are times when it is ok that some schools are closed while others are open. I would have been fine with your school being closed when my kids school was open because it was accessible. This happens so infrequently that I don’t think my kid having an extra day of school, or missing an extra day, is a big deal. I think insisting that no one go to school because a small percentage of schools are not safe to attend.

The idea that the County has to be all open or all closed is the problem. If the county had a more nuanced open/close policy, some people would have been in school on Wednesday. I am sorry that your school wasn’t ready to be opened but I think the kids at my kids school were fine for school and should not lose another day.

The last minute change such as the message we got Sunday-Wednesday evenings? It seemed like Thursday's message followed the same cadence.

I don't understand your reference to "LAST MINUTES CHANGES." The default is that schools will be open. Like each snow storm decisions about opening are announced the night before. That process occurred here and there was no change. She never said they would remain closed.

Even if it wasn't normal attendance, it was worth starting back up again to get the system going.

And this snow just shows how stupid the excessive school holidays are before January.
