This is bullshit. We’re telling our kids to fear snow and ice and to be soft.

Yawn.

They are literally telling you they prioritize sports.

And there is nothing wrong with this.

The neighborhood streets are not clear in most of Loudoun. Loudoun is more than Ashburn.

Doubtful claim. And “not clear” doesn’t mean “not passable”.

NP but apparently they canceled bus services for the more rural areas that have gravel roads before they outright canceled. I would guess that caused quite a stir.

Keeping sports and not school is something that must only be acceptable in Loudoun county based on these responses. Other counties would be pissed

Didn't pretty much all the northern Virginia schools do it during Covid?

What I do understand (they have the janitorial staff doing something else) but hate is the lack of community use when school buildings are closed. It's not just high school sports teams that use those gyms after hours.

My understanding is they attempted activities yesterday (by the way there’s more activities than just sports) and some of the schools and roads were such a mess still that they ended up being canceled anyway and LCPS realized school today couldn’t happen if the after 4 activities were that bad. Honestly kudos for trying to make it work - the conditions are what they are though.

Parents blew up on them. Every post in every fb group I saw was blasting LCPS for only doing a 2 hr delay with FFX was closed. Lots of photos included of unplowed roads & sidewalks where the kids would need to use.

Also, they were irate at the moving of many bus stops, including several that would require the parents to literally drive past the school to drop their kid at a new bus stop to catch a bus. Made no sense. Like one parent said, she could drop her kid at school in the morning, but she couldn't get back from work in time to pick the kid up at the new bus stop that was extremely far from his home and required a long, dangerous walk. If they couldn't pick up at their normal stops, school needed to be canceled is what everyone was saying.

I think it's time we have a serious discussion in Loudoun about splitting the county for school. The neighborhoods around me and that I've been in over the last 2 days are very clean in Leesburg. My good friend lives outside of Purcellville and their neighborhood hasn't been touched by a plow & they are a VDOT road not private company road.

Since conditions may vary, there is a Loudoun Parks and Rec site that also manages public school fields and gyms. They can manage opening and closing separate from the schools. They can also alter the status of each location. Youth club teams also use these facilities and canceling sports only hurts the kids. Most are out sledding and other activities which are fun and great but let's face it, these kids are not staying in and the roads are fine.

Yep. We are in Sterling and could have gone back Wednesday morning without even a delay. Here we are looking at Friday. Will they even go tomorrow? Absurd.

And the bus whiners kill me every time. Oh boo hoo! Do they know how many of us live 1.25 miles down a busy road and don’t even get a bus? We’ve been driving to school to a decade. Get over it.

2hr delay for Friday. So not a full day of school this week. I don’t understand which parents are happy about this. Certainly not any I know IRL.
