When should I go see Jimmy Carter's casket?

What are the lines like this morning?

You go WEDNESDAY, JAN. 8, 2025
"The late president continues to lie in state while the military maintains a guard of honor. The public is invited to pay their respects from 7 a.m. on Jan. 8., 2025 until 7 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2025."

The contrast between this honorable man who was a true Christian and the horrible person who will be inaugurated there in two weeks is mind boggling.

So much this. Good has taken a hit around this lousy world. Jimmy Carter exemplified doing good despite all. We have to dust ourselves off and get back to the fight.

The real national day of mourning should be on the 20th.

They were non-existent. I came in from Arlington, and we walked right in around 8 AM. It was deeply moving and I'm very glad that I went.

Others in line with us mentioned that they stood outside in line for two hours last night.

I have Thursday off and wanted to pay visit at the Capitol, but I beleive the procession is starting early in the morning. I don't want to stand more than hour in the cold. What's the best way to pay my respects in person?

Technically, you are there to show respect to his mortal remains not visiting his casket.

The people who waited 2 hrs last night got in line (oddly) before public viewing opened. Lines have been fine and move quickly.

My thoughts exactly. It’s shocking how far our citizen have fallen that they’ve chosen Trump.

So does this mean the others returned for a second visit?

I blame Murdoch, the Koch brothers, and the Fox takeover of the American brain.

We went yesterday afternoon--waited outside for about 1.5 hours, then got inside. From the time we got in line to the rotunda was about 3 hours. But we also ended up in the rotunda when some of the Carter family and Bernie Sanders were brought in, so I don't know if an influx of staff made the wait longer. I thought of going in the middle of the night but logistically we couldn't make it work. It was worth it, very glad I went and had some very interesting conversations with the people around us. There were truly all kinds there.
